Nero 6 Reloaded

There are a number of CD/DVD writing packages around but only two can claim to be the major players, Nero and CD Creator, Nero has just got even better.

PocketDAB 1000 Part 2

When I rushed through a review of the PocketDAB 1000 just before Christmas I promised a more in depth look and a report on use of speakers and rechargeable batteries.

Wireless Network Music

Not only is Noxon a palindrome but also a device that you may wish to add to your wireless network.

Canon Pixma iP3000

I reviewed the sibling to this (iP2000) last year, although this came out at the same time the media recommended to work with it’s CD/DVD printing capabilities has only just arrived.
It is 42x29x17cm and weighs around 6.5kilos. Paper is loaded face forward in a vertical stack at the rear of the unit and this adds around 21cm to the height. Paper is delivered face up from a drop down door that doubles as a tray to catch output and this adds another 21cm to the depth. As always the stated print speeds are not met, I managed 12PPM printing a 200 word document and just on 9PPM printing a 1500 word - spread over four page - item.

CD Labelling Technology

While not to be confused with a similar sounding Jedi Star Wars weapon, LightScribe technology does involve the power of a laser.

Motorola DECT Phones

I first used a DECT phone a few years ago, now when using a corded phone I always seem to need to refer to something that is out of reach.

New from Acer

Convergence is the name of the game that interests Acer as the company announces some new products

Epson L-500V Digital Camera

The quality of a digital camera is not the mega pixels it can produce although they obviously help, it is done to the quality of the lens (CCD) and the compression methods used.

HP 2550l Colour Laser

Colour lasers used to be very expensive, now they can cost less than some not that complex mono lasers. The HP 2550 is certainly an entry level product.

A Mancunian Candidate

It ain’t heavy; it’s a brother that has grabbed my attention.
This seems like a good idea, it’s a simple design, with a few ‘bells’ added, the only problem as with all good ideas, why did someone not think of it sooner, or maybe it’s not such a good idea?

Argosy ‘Photo Drive’

120GB of external storage in a slim vertical case that also has two USB2 ports and even a couple of card drives built in.

Samsung SM 730MW

Reviewing this so soon after the excellent Philips offering published 17/1/05 gave me more than a few problems. Firstly is it a monitor/TV or a TV/monitor, Samsung list it as a Business unit.
Firstly the dimensions and from these figures some will immediately see my problem 52x34x15cm the latter figure is the depth of the base the actual panel is no more than 5cm deep. A standard 17inch monitor has a screen of 32x27cm this unit from Samsung 37x22cm. Both would give the notional measurement of 17inches when measured diagonally, but the screen makeup and shape is very different.   So this leads me to the conclusion that this is a TV/monitor.
It is slim, sleek and has a sexy look. However according to recent reports it could have an adverse effect on male fertility but let’s not think about such things instead look on this device as a mobile entertainment centre.
This unit will read and write 17 different card types, yes I said 17 and I must admit I did not even know there were 17 different card types.

HP Laserjet 1160

Laserjets first arrived over twenty years ago, my first was a ‘2P’ with the P standing for personal. It’s strange how you remember your first laser printer.

Data In Your Pocket

With Sony leaving the PDA market, others are more than willing to take up the slack.
A flat panels display is always the measurement stated, a monitor is normally at least an inch less than stated, also a flat panel will alway take up far less space.

Improve your Memory?

For most of us once school or university are finished then exams seem to matter less. However there is a theory that ‘use it or lose it’ could well apply.

Hauppauge WinTV-USB2

Watching television programs on your computer monitor has never been easier.
The title only covers part of what this unit can do, it can also record and play .wav files as well as having an FM radio, the reviewed version is less than £30 post free.

Housekeeping Tips for Optical Media

Increasingly data is being stored on optical media so perhaps it is time to look at ways of protecting this form of media.
I have long used a multi CD player, my unit started playing up and the warranty was long past. I looked in shops and online multi CD units are no longer that common.

The Increase in Data Capacity

As the amount of data has grown, so has the capacity of the storage media available.

HP Laserjet 1320nw

The HP Laser first appeared over 20 years ago, how those who purchased an early offering would have loved what is inside this small box.
This product has been anticipated for some time. What would the company that started to move to portable music do to coompete in the hard-disk MP3 player market? Well, the wait is over with the first products arriving in the UK in October. Is this an Apple iPod killer? Read the article!
Sony uncharacteristically have been very late to the hard-disk based music  player. While they touted their proprietary mini-disk format in various forms, with and without compression, the rest of the world followed a more open route.

LP Recorder and LP Ripper

Both the programs work not only with LP’s but also with Cassette Tapes and should you have them also with reel to reel tapes.

Time To Consider Protection

Emails are meant to be read only by the recipient but sometimes other show more than a passing interest.
We all like a bargain especially at this time of year and this one sounded so good I checked the price twice and they even offer free delivery.

Philips HDD070 MP3 Player

There are lots of alternatives to the iPod and some are even white! The Philips GoGear offering is 2GB and also has an FM radio.
