A photo printer but certainly not run of the mill as it not only supports 15x10cm but also 18x13cm and panorama 30x10cm images. It has a certain upmarket look.
The unit is black with grey buttons and a grey trim around the drop down front that provided the reception for captured images. However when this is opened the whole front is found to be grey.
These two items are both the biggest and the most expensive and also the noisiest of all the toys and games that I selected from this years Dream Toys event, the kids will love them.
Zero Gravity This vehicle will climb walls, I do not mean that it will send parents up them, it actually climbs walls as well as working on the ground. Yes you do need a reasonably flat wall - no hugely deep wallpapers - but it certainly coped with anaglyptia. In the very crudest terms it works a little like a hovercraft - no don't try it on water - air is sucked under the vehicle and this holds it to the wall.

Certainly a camera small enough to fit in any pocket or purse and while it is supplied with a woefully inadequate memory card it does come with a case as standard.
It is 9x5.5x2.5 but the width extends from 2.5cm to 6cm with the lens extended. The weight is around 200grams. All this means it is easy to fit into the palm of an adult hand. This is a 6.3mega pixel camera with 3x optical zoom that is various shaded of silver. Just for a change lets start with the back this is dominated by the 5x4cm TFT display and to the right of this are six buttons and a five position wheel.

Strange how a company such as T-Mobile can supply the excellent Nokia E61 well before Nokia can. Using it with T-Mobiles Web n Walk software using 3G says there was after all a point to all those expensive licences.
While connection speeds were not up to 'broadband' they are rapid and knock GPRS totally for six. The Nokia E61 is a device that looks more like a PDA than a phone but in fairness it's more than both combined. Anyone needing to connect, communicate and be communicated with (Blackberry style) should consider this device. It has a 39 key keyboard that can easily be used by two thumbs and keys that you need such as @ / .
This is an All In One from Canon that, on first glance, appears to have no controls on it at all, just a grey, silver and black rectangular box with a lid on the top of the flatbed scanner.
The is 43x34x15cm when closed. Lift the paper storage tray at the rear and place some A4 in it and this adds 20cm to the 15cm height. The controls all sit under a flip up lid on the right top edge at the front of the unit including the 4x3cm TFT display that can sit at vertical or up to 30 degrees beyond to suit, so that viewing is always easy.
With space at a premium an All-In-One is often the answer here I am looking at a unit not much larger than a lot of printers, but it also scans and copies. The latter without needing the PC connected.
The is 41x27x16cm when not in use. The 27cm depth just about doubles when the drop down tray that is the paper input and output is lowered and extended. You need a few centimetres of clearance above to place items on the flatbed to scan but apart from that it can happily sit on a shelf it weights a tad over 5Kg.
A futuristic coffee machine that has special coffee and dried milk capsules (pods) that quickly combine to make currently four kinds of coffee that are top notch.
Currently the comes with a starter pack of coffee and dried milk capsules as well as a cup/saucer and glass to give that coffee shop appearance. However the main thing with this machine is the speed of making a Cappuccino or Latte Macchiato both of which require a milk and a coffee capsule or an Espresso or Caffe Lungo that are drunk black and require just a single capsule. If the machine is switched on cold water is turned into a hot drink in around 20 seconds.
This is a compact All In One unit, however while it is small and the controls are easy to use, all is not as it should be.
The is 39x35x16cm and light grey and black in colour. There are a total of 15 buttons all at the right side of the front edge of the top along with a rather poor LED display that you always seem to be at the wrong angle to view what it is saying. The front has two card slots as well as a PictBridge one. It is nice to see a proper paper tray - rather than an open shelf-printed results are delivered face up on a shelf just above the paper tray.
Both of the products reviewed here are new versions of old favourites. Monopoly using a credit card rather than cash and a 1990s version of Trivial Pursuits.

There are two versions of this phone the E50-1 with camera and the one I looked at the E50-2 without the camera.
This is a small but solid neat phone that looks businesslike, not having a camera seems a little strange but some companies prefer it as then employees cannot photograph documents, I was amazed when I heard that but I am told it is true. The dimensions are 11x4x1.5cm and it weights around 100grams. The 4x3cm screen is bright and easy to read. This is required as the top 1.

This is probably just too big to fit in most pockets but the lack of a case is not vital as the lens is covered and the screen is capable of being rotated 180 degrees as with a lot of camcorders.
The is 11.5x6.5x5cm and weights around 350grams. This is an 8mega pixel unit with 4x optical zoom. The SD card supplied is only 16MB (down probably to pressure from retailers) but I was very surprised to find it comes only standard with (4) AA batteries. Canon PowerShot A630 The TFT screen is all but 5x4cm and is described as a 2.5 inch LCD. The lens is 7.3-29.2mm giving the 4x optical.
Say it very quietly I am looking at something that is pink, in fact worse than that its a series of things that are pink and at least one of them will not be able to be used behind locked doors.
Apart from the fact that it is obviously aimed at the female this is a rather good small portable DVD player. The claimed time for use on batteries is only two hours but I never got less than 165 minutes and on one occasion I got 174 minutes. You can of course run it from the mains and should you wish you can plug it into a TV.
A meteorite has landed preprogrammed with games that are truly out of this world, find, memorise and push the twelve buttons to control the ten different games
clear all ten games to play the final showdown.
As the prices of LCD fall the idea of picking one of the cheapest is perhaps not as stupid as it seems. A 32inch LCD TV for less than £600 and with free delivery.
Firstly this has all the connections at the rear including D-SUB and HDMI. It is an analogue unit, however if you attach a Freeview box to it you are all but up to date. I would have loved to have used the excellent DigiFusion FVRT200 box (29/3/06) but that was long since returned as it also has a built in PVR and has a dual tuner built in.

There are not many things left that a mobile phone cannot do however this is the first I know that you can watch live TV on, I mean live and not a link via who knows where.
It is 11x6x2cm and weights only 150grams. Apart from a slight bulge on the right side it looks like a lot of other mobile phones. The screen is 4.5x3.5cm with a single button on that bulge on the right saying TV on the button. Below the screen there are 18 keys and five position controller. The left side has two buttons - volume up and down - while the top has the on/off button and the right side has a single button to activate the camera.
Most people think that PDF is the sole property of Adobe, however other companies make packages that can create and convert PDF files, here I am looking at packages from Abbyy and Nuance (ScanSoft), both cost a fraction of the Adobe product.

These used to very expensive and only really for a graphic artist, now apart from the specialist companies some others have produced them at reasonable prices one such is the Hyper Pen 12000U as sold by Gizoo.
Once again the yearly round of new product updates has started and the first of the 2007 crop to come my way is Microsoft Encarta 2007 Reference Suite and Encyclopedia Britannica 2007 Ultimate Reference Suite.
Fancy a special Genre of music then RadioTracker 2 can help you to find your choice and automatically record tracks in MP3 mode onto your hard disc.
Countdown was the first program on Channel 4 when it launched, now there is another quiz show on that channel that has a huge audience Drummond Park licence two versions of the game in the UK.
One of the gems I saw at Dream Toys this year a certain hit, maybe almost as big 'can I have a 'P' please Bob' in case you are not old enough that was an ITV quiz called Blockbusters. There are two versions of this game a board version and a console version, the latter is the one for me. First a disappointment it requires 4xAA batteries and they are not supplied.
Continuing my series of 32 and 37inch LCD TVs with this Digital and Analogue TV from LG, having both means PIP (Picture in Picture) can be used to show a second channel.
The was reviewed in the same place as the 37inch offerings with my own 28inch standard TV sitting on the floor sulking. While there was more space on top of the unit the missing five inches does not really detract. It is 80x61x13cm and sits on a silver grey stand that is 21cm deep at the widest point in the centre so the panel itself is well within the stand.
So much talk about the next Windows operating system, so why not delve a little deeper with the help of one of the Dummies series, also everything you have ever wanted to know about web site visitors.
The price is £19.99 and is likely to be available from specialist bookshops or you could try Windows Vista For Dummies 204 sides of information on the next Windows operating system from Andy Rathbone. This paperback tome is produced from Beta 2 so there may be a few changes before Gold Code. It should still - we are told - be available to corporate customers this year with the likes of you and I being able to purchase it early in the New Year.
Here two different ways to charge your iPod all types and just for good measure one of the devices also allows files to be removed or added from the iPod as well.
TunePower First the one that comes in the Blister Pack - strong scissors and gloves required - while these look great on the dealers shelves they are devils to get into. Any iPod with a dock connector will be able to be charged from this device and if you disconnect the battery from the lead it can give an additional 8-10 hours of use to your iPod. It comes with a range of custom sleeves so your iPod will fit securely.
This is the first of my follow on pieces from Dream Toys and Test Tube Alien along with Phlat Ball and a couple of different Oidz go under the microscope.
Oidz These are strong magnets - complete with warnings about placing near computers - in a variety of shapes and sizes. The two sets I saw are from the smaller sizes one from the PlanetOidz set and the other from the AsterOidz sets. While the latter has a small collectable character the former has a disc looking rather like a gaming chip.
A printer for 15x10cm photographs, it has a small TFT screen and can be connected direct to cameras via Pict Bridge, print from a range of photo cards or even from a PC.
The is really small at 21x10x10cm when shut, in use the back tilts backward by 3cm at the top to allow storage of a few sheets of 15x10cm paper waiting to be printed. The front drops down this adds a further 10cm to the depth to catch the printed sheets. HP PhotoSmart A516 I found - when printing directly - that around two minutes is required from selecting the image on the TFT to a virtually dry printed page being delivered.
The lady who demonstrated this to me said as it has a ball even a man can use it I think it was a joke, however it is a very good vacuum cleaner.
For more years than I can remember I have used an upright Hoover and apart from emptying and occasionally changing the bag the only thing I ever remember doing was replacing the belt to the sweeping brushes a couple of times and this is over at least thirty years. Then a couple of years ago I found that the bags were no longer available.
In my last piece I covered reasonably small units, here a little larger in size still small enough to fit in a pocket and a lot larger in storage capacity.
Seagate 6GB USB 2 Pocket Hard Drive This looks very like a yo-yo it is circular 7x7x2cm and weights only 50grams. It is grey and black with a clear plastic centre that flashes blue when data is being transferred. Twist the grey outer cover to reveal a standard USB plug on the end of a 13cm black lead.
Here two gifts available from Gizoo that tell the time although neither can be said to be clocks. One an adult gift and the other very defiantly for the younger ones.
This is described as a message clock, however it does more and if nothing else it will be a conversation piece on any desk. Maybe an executive toy but for anyone who you struggle to find presents for it would be ideal. It is 20x20x6cm with a chrome bass and the rest is matt black, the messages appear at the top of the unit. Without scrolling they can be up to 13cm long and the display letters and numbers are 1.5cm tall.
A new name to me and probably to you but Funai products are often sold under various other names, now as 2006 draws to a close they are marketing under their own name.
The is a video recorder, a DVD recorder and a hard disc recorder all in one unit. It is somewhat larger than other such units - not all of which also have video - at 43x37x10cm. Funai HDR-B2735 I suspect the main use - for most people - for the video recorder part will be to dub to DVD or hard disc. It is probably easier to dub to hard disc but I managed to do it both ways without problem.

This powerful 5MP camera with 3.4 to 1 optical zoom is small enough to fit into the smallest pocket but has one of the biggest TFT displays I have seen.
The TFT display literally fills the whole back of the unit. The dimensions are 8.5x6.5x2.5cm and it weights around 150grams. The TFT display is 6x4.5cm and in a line along the bottom of the display are seven buttons that control the unit.
