Acronis 2021

This is a piece of software that I have used for many years, sometimes it’s a single file that I need to get back but twice now it’s been that Windows refuses to bootup and I have been happy to say in one case it was only a few hours work to get up and back to a few days previous, the other occasion took longer as I needed a new hard drive but in both cases it saved me.

The latest version states it will protect you with Active Protection for Ransomware Attacks, Malicious Files, Zoom Injection Attacks, Illicit Cryptomining and Malicious Websites and of course what it was first designed for to protect you from inadvertent delating of files and folders and allows complete reinstallation of Windows even if your PC fails to boot.

All these extra protections do come with a downside in that the overall complete backup takes a little longer. My normal complete backup to a USB drive takes just over two hours with the 2020 version and now with the 2021 version it takes almost 2½ hours. The amount of files and data it is backing up is around 300GB and the compressed backup is around 200GB.

One new feature you notice from the working screen is that beside the amount of data backed up it now shows the current speed of files being transferred.

To the right of this it shows the expected time to go this always starts very high like around 9 hours but soon settles down to giving a more or less accurate figure after about 30GB of data is backed up. However with this new version after around 150GB of data is backed up it loses the time remaining and starts again at an even higher figure but it never affects the actual backup it is just somewhat off putting. I have sent several screen grabs to Acronis so they know about it. They have contacted me and we have conducted a remote backup and the technician has seen the error I get and has downloaded a lot of data to see why this is happening.

On my other machines with smaller – and faster SSD drives – I have not noticed this problem.

A new build is now available 29350 and I have downloaded this doing my latest backup with this and some diagnostic software from Acronis my problem is still there, but they know of it and if you don’t look at it working you wouldn’t know.

As a single, integrated solution, Acronis True Image 2021 closes those gaps, making protection and security more effective, easier to manage, and more affordable. Users have authentic, unaltered data that’s free of malware for safe recoveries. They can proactively stop any malware attack and then quickly restore affected files. The single, intuitive interface reduces the complexity of managing their security and backups.

There is a 30 day trial available on the Acronis website.

After several long Team Viewer sessions with senior Acronis technicians they found the error and promised it would be resolved in the Nov-Dec update. After a reinstallation after the updates arrival it now works correctly.
