For the next episode of its Royal Romance saga, Domini Games has released Fortunes and Foe. Events have moved on in the Kingdom since the previous episode. Since the death of King Illeon, peace and tranquillity has spread throughout the land as the people and animals seem to be co-existing happily. But conditions can change.
As usual with this particular series from Domini Games, this episode spreads over three chapters with each one focusing on the story from the aspect of a particular character. When working through the story, the usual features will be available for adjusting. Along with volume levels and viewing settings, you can opt to play the game in Casual, Advanced, Hardcore or Custom difficulty levels.
Once set in your choice of environment, you will be led through a series of actions to familiarise yourself as to the different type of mouse cursors linked to various actions and be able to access tools for a Journal, with sections for Notes and Tasks, an inventory, System Guide and a rechargeable Hint feature. Links are also provided to view Collectibles (Circus props, Ride layouts and Circus tickets) on the left plus a Decisions section on the right that might affect the game flow.
Opening with Chapter One, the game starts as Evelyn, a huntress, sets out to investigate an attack on a travelling circus and, on the way, discovers a baby dragon which will have an important role to play later in the story. As her investigation into the attack takes up most of her time, Evelyn leaves the baby dragon under the protection of her friend Glissandro as she checks out different locations, encounters characters whose dialogue is usually imparted in a split screen plus identifies the attack culprit to be a Troll. At some point during the chapter, Evelyn will need to rescue Glissandro from entrapment.
The game, and Evelyn's investigation, will feature a variety of Hidden Object scenes and a mini game puzzles. As usual with Domini Game titles, Hidden Object game play scenes will come with an option to switch to Match 3 game play whenever the need arises. You will also be given a choice of tackling mini game puzzles in either Easy or Hard mode.
At the completion of Chapter One, you move onto Chapter Two with the lead being taken by Glissandro. In this chapter it is Evelyn's turn to be the prisoner with Glissandro taking on the role of the rescuer. The chapter also involves the baby dragon being taken ill due to it drinking poisoned water.
Following more task completion, Hidden Object scenes and mini game puzzles, Chapter Three sees the lead role taken on by Felix, the owner of the circus. He helps to restore the baby dragon to full health and the dragon responds by doing its best to entertain the circus audience.
With its bold graphics and multi-layered story line, I preferred this episode o the Royal Romances to the earlier episodes. You can download this title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99. It is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £14.76. System requirements call for a 2.0 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 1.13GB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
