Jet Dogs Studio has returned to its Mirrors of Deception series with its "The Poisoned Legacy" title. As with the previous offering in the series, this game is based around the death of a central character with the main gaming action being of the Clutter style of searching with a tag line of mini puzzle solving flavouring. In this case the murder victim is Charles Thompson who is the elderly head of the Thompson family and its business concerns.
This game, which can be played in either Easy or Regular mode, is spread over 20 levels that each feature eight challenging sections Both the various levels and the content they hold needs to be completed in sequence. Within this environment you will be cast in the role of Agatha Hastings. It will be your task to discover the truth behind the death of Charles Thompson after arriving at the Thompson mansion.
Following the pattern used by Jet Dogs Studio in earlier titles, each level of the game will be made up of seven Clutter type challenges plus a mini game puzzle. The appearance of the Clutter challenge as your source material could take a number of forms. The Clutter could form a static pile, one that is constantly moving or taking up a variety of other formats such as a rectangle, cross or rotating heart.
Each Clutter will be accompanied by a set of defining rules. You could be asked to find items such as books, kitchen equipment, paper, music, envelopes & letters, clothing, tools or bottles, In some cases your selections need to be in pairs, in groups of three or four or even items that have been cut in half. Along with the type of items to collect, further rules might be applied. These might feature factors such as colour and size plus whether might be of the same hue, size or different and are capable of being moved or not.
Mixed in with the general Clutter will be a number of stars. As well as blocking the view and access to underlying items, these stars do serve a useful task. By collecting them you can power the game's Hint facility to help identify possible matches you might have missed.
After completing the seven Clutter challenges of a level you will be given a change of game playing mode. You could be asked to restore a scene by rotating segments of the scene, swapping elements diagonally or switching columns with rows. At other times the puzzle might involve finding matching pairs, groups of three or four from cards being placed face downwards.
After completing a puzzle you will find a piece of evidence and various members of the Thompson family will speak their piece and the story line will advance. Eventually you will unmask the culprit and more surprisingly reveal the reason behind the crime. Aspiring Clutter fans can download this title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99. The game requires a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 336MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
