Elephant Games believes it is about time you were informed of the “Fatal Truth”. To this end the company has opened the doors to its favourite hostelry for the third time with the release of its latest Crossroads excursion. In order to avail yourself of the establishment’s psychological resolving facilities, you will need to don the mantel of Taylor Campbell, a journalist who believes the search for truth will always be fully justified.
Available in Collector’s Edition format, this Hidden Object Adventure comes with a collection of bonus items to enhance the appeal of the main game play. While some bonus items will be accessible immediately, others will require progress or even completion before they become available. When playing this game you have a choice of opting for Casual, Advanced, Hardcore or Custom difficulty level with varying attributes.
On entering the Crossroads establishment you will be greeted by Mistress Eve, your friendly bartender. She will challenge you to completing a game which comes in three parts based on magazine articles. To assist you in completing the tasks associated with the game you will be provided with tools consisting of a map, task list, inventory, Strategy Guide and a Hint feature enhanced by Eve’s white pet snake. You will also get a link to check your character’s performance during the game. The link will supply ratings based on aggression, peacefulness, rational and emotion plus the degree of relationship with other characters.
In the first section of the game, namely “For the Followers”, you infiltrate a video bloggers team led by Skylar and investigate a fire at a grand music venue where several people died. Stage Two of the game, entitled “Echoes of the Dead”, involves visiting a town where time flow differently, people do not get older and they must remain until their memories are restored. Stage Three casts you in the role of an actress who is receiving threatening letters in “Behind the Spot Light”. After being kidnapped, can you escape and unmask the culprit?
As usual the game will feature moving between locations in search of clues as you inspect areas and collect items. When encountering other characters, you can communicate with them, often with a choice of response, and receive their information in both printed text and spoken dialogue format. Among the game’s varied tasks will be an assortment of Hidden Object scenes and mini game puzzles.
Hidden Object game play, identified by sparkle outbreaks, could use words, silhouettes, image symbols, scene areas and finding pairs for its required lists of objects. Sometimes the task might also include the replacement of some items and switching between multiple scenes. Mini game action could involve sorting articles into relevant groups and matching titles with images. You might need to guide a ball through a maze and recreate a scene by manipulating triangular section or solving riddles to empty a bath tub.
How you react to the varied tasks and making instant decisions that pop up from time to time during and after each part of the game could bring redemption or dire consequences. Once the main game has been completed, you can tackle a bonus chapter, revisit scenes and replay mini game puzzles plus recreate a puzzle from pieces collected and scattered throughout the game.
If you can handle a split personality and able to put your skills to the test then you can download this title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99. You can also download it from Big Fish Games priced at £15.08. The game requires a 2.5 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 716MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
