Developed by AWIGOR, Rainbow Mosaics – Christmas Helper is a puzzle game set in the festive period built around Nonogram game play. The game sets you the task of completing 120 levels of mosaic creation action. These levels have been set out in a winding path of stop-over points that must be tackled in sequence.
Supposedly you have been assigned a Helper in the form of a robot who will be present throughout your journey. However this robotic Helper does have a habit of making silly mistakes. This robot has been known to carry out tasks such as arranging a string of sausages on the Christmas tree or getting into a confusing mix with the relationship between a cat and a mouse. Actually this means you will be left to your own resources when completing the main element of this game.
As usual with Nonogram game play you will need to complete a series of colour coded layers by filling in the required cells in the individual layers of a grid. The appropriate cells to be filled in will be indicated by numeric clues arranged across the top and down the left side of the grid. Through the use of a colour wheel, on the right side of the game area, you can switch between the different colour layers that make up the mosaic.
While this changing of colour layers can be carried out automatically when a layer of colour is complete, you can also make such changes manually. You will also have access to three types of power-ups. These power-ups, which will need to be charged through making normal game progress, can indicate whether a random, specific or an area of the grid needs to be filled in or not.
When completing a Nonogram grid, the game does allow you to make up to four mistakes when filling in cells in the various layers. However should you exceed the proposed limit of mistakes then you will need to replay the level. Fortunately as you progress through the game, an option to increase the number of mistakes will be permitted.
As cells are filled in with the appropriate colour, you will be awarded points or coins. You can use these rewards to purchase various decorative items which will be randomly arranged along the route you must take as you complete the different levels. You can also increase the power of the different power-ups by paying the appropriate fee.
As mentioned earlier, while you are creating the different mosaics making up the path you must follow, your Robot Helper will be hard at work making mistakes and you will be able to watch his latest escapades. You can view a series of static cut-scenes showing what the Robot has been up to as mistake follows mistake.
