Hunter's Journey - Tears of the Lake is a Hidden Object Adventure game delivered by Domini Games.  With an opening introduction that features a mermaid who would certainly benefit from several dentist visits, you are cast in the role of Velinir who was training to follow in his father's footsteps and become a Hunter whose task in life was to protect the ordinary people from attacks by monsters who roam the land.

However Velinir had failed a vital stage in becoming a Hunter.  This stage involved being able to bond with an Aninorph, a bestial spirit who would become a faithful companion.  As yet Aninorph had failed to achieve this stage.  Fortunately, under the guidance of another Hunter, called Rodnik, you were given the opportunity to remedy matters by going on a search for a missing girl.  It is this search which forms the basis for this Hidden Object game as you visit the Stillwater location.

Assisting your search for the missing girl will be the usual arrangement of tools arranged across the bottom of the screen.  These tools will consist of a Journal with Task and Notes sections, a Map to transport you to different locations, an Inventory of items collected plus a Strategy Guide and recharging Hint feature.  When necessary other tools to switch between locations or scenes, plus indicators to inform you when Collectibles might be available and the results of decisions made at vital points during the game are available.  The mouse pointer will change shape to indicate when certain actions are possible.

Both the use of overlaid windows and a split screen approach are used appropriately throughout the game with the latter being used when dialogue is imparted.  The game also features several instances of sequences of scenes to help develop and progress through the story line.  With these sequences you are provided with a Skip option if you are in a hurry to get back to the main action.

As the game progresses you will encounter mermaids who serve the Lord of the Lake, a creature who is responsible for the current threats including the covering of miners by a layer of salt.  On your journey through the various tasks to find the missing girl, deal with the presence of mermaids and counter the threat of the Lord of the Lake.  You will need to encounter numerous mini game puzzles with Easy or Hard settings and a smaller number of Hidden Object puzzles that announce their presence with an outbreak of sparkles.  If the choice of looking for pairs, parts, silhouettes, difference between scenes, descriptions of replacing items does not appeal then you have the option of switching to Match 3 game play.

Once the main Hinters' Journey has been completed, you get the chance to play a bonus chapter, replay Hidden Object scenes and mini game puzzles plus replay video cut-scenes featured in the game.  You will also have access to a Boudoir option  to view the Collectibles found during the game.
