Mixing mini game action with Match 3 game play, StarL takes in Ancient Egyptian history.

Continuing with its various excursions into the world of Match 3 game play, Itera Labs has released its StarL 6 offering.  While retaining much of the main Match 3 aspects found in the earlier titles in this particular series, this latest offering does feature a number of additional elements.  These will add to the appeal of the StarL environment as you progress through the levels of the game.

Following the pattern used in the series earlier titles, options are available to adjust volume levels for sound effects and background music.  The game can be viewed in full screen mode.  There is also an option to play the game in a variety of European languages as it spreads its content out over 200 levels of Match 3 action.

When tackling the various 200 levels of Match 3 game play you will be presented with the designated grid made up of covered areas and different coloured tiles.  The grid will be displayed against an appropriate scene that also holds an arrangement of tools.  These tools will give you access to features such as Options, Help, Hint, Time, Steps and Hammer.  While the Time and Step tools might indicate that you will need to complete the grid within certain restrictions, these features are more to do with the reward of stars for completing the Grid’s clearance.

The actual clearance procedure will use the usual methods as you create groups of three or more similarly coloured tiles by swapping two adjacent ones.  The group thus formed will then disappear and the resulting space being filled by other tiles falling downwards.  You can also use the Hammer feature to remove a single tile or clear larger areas using a bomb that appears following the creation of a certain shaped groups.  Using this various methods you can clear elements that include ice blocks, crates, mushrooms, plants and padlocks unlocked by keys which need lowering to the base of the grid.

While the number of levels have been increased to 200 in this offering, the levels have been divided into blocks of ten,  The first nine grids will need to be cleared in the normal manner but the tenth level will set you a specific challenge of reaching a particular target score.  If necessary you can skip this level if it proves too difficulty.

While your journey through the 200 level of Match 3 action proceeds, a story emerges regarding the discovery of a mysterious sarcophagus.  The discovery of this ancient Egyptian coffin will reveal, once opened, its content to be a body that resembles that of the explorer who discovered it.  You then embark on a journey that begins with aspect of Ancient Egypt.  The grid will be sandwiched between two Egyptian characters at this stage.

As you follow the designated StarL path, some of the various levels of the game will be accompanied by a symbol representing a possible diversion.  This symbol will appear as a yellow diamond, blue puzzle piece, ellipsis (three dots), mini image or a control piece.   You can either deal with these instances when they appear or return to them later as the urge takes you.  The yellow diamond will provide and entry point to a hand of Solitaire while the blue puzzle indicated a different kind of Solitaire.  The ellipsis symbols moves the story along apace as you encounter a UFO and a trip to another planet is involved.

This combination of puzzle solving, Match 3 game play and delve into ancient history can be downloaded from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  The game requires a 2.0 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 388MB of hard disk space running Windows  and later.
