Continuing with its Alchemy Odyssey series, e-Funsoft has released Tears of the Elements. This second title in this particular series of Match 3 game play can be tackled in either Relaxed or Timed mode. Following a brief narrated accompaniment, you will be introduced to the story of two young sister, called Elera and Selene, who are seen playing happily together. However when one sister, Selene, disappears into a nearby Etheria tree, the game takes on a whole new aspect as time moves forward.
Concerned regarding Selene's disappearance, Elera becomes involved in Alchemy as she searches for her missing sister through a series of Match 3 levels of game play.
This title's Match 3 game play follows the usual pattern of game play adopted by other e-Funsoft titles. Made up of over 70 levels of Match 3 game play, the action is spread over five chapters that each contain four upgrades. These upgrades need to be purchased in sequence using the Stars earned by completing Match 3 levels.
A Match 3 level will feature a centrally mounted grid. The cells making up the grid used in this particular series seemed to have undergone a touch of colour which some might find initially distracting. The grid will be sandwiched between any available power-up tools on the left and the current challenge assigned that to the current grid on the right. The challenge will consist of the type and number of tiles which need to be removed to complete the level. These various features are laid out against a rather fuzzy background scene.
When clearing tiles from a grid, especially those mentioned in the challenge, the usual collection of options will be available. You can create groups for automatic removal by swapping two adjacent tiles. The group then disappears with its space being taken up by other tiles falling downwards. This effect can sometimes cause a cascading effect as more groups of tiles are created and disappear. You can also make use of the supplied power-ups to remove other tiles. Additional power-ups can be created by forming groups containing more than four tiles and which brings a reward of a bomb.
While most tiles can be removed by the methods suggested, there is one type of tile that resists such methods, This an artefact tile. To remove it from the grid you need to create a pathway beneath it so that it descends to the base of the grid and can be removed. If an artefact tile appears in the grid then it will always be included as part of the challenge.
As mentioned earlier, the game is made up of five chapters that each feature four upgrades. These upgrades will be followed by a cut-scene, featuring static characters and printed dialogue. The cut-scene will help advance the story line as Elera continues the searches for her sister and help solve the chaos that is starting to spread through Etheria. On her journey Elera will meet new characters and might even discover the secrets of forbidden alchemy.
