It is the appropriate moment to step back in time. This journey will take you back to the 1950s and place you in the township of Salem, better known for its witch trials of 1692. In this particular offering, entitled Secrets of Salem - Shadow of the Witch, you are cast in the role of Dakota who is returning to her home town following the death the death of her mother.
Even before Dakota has had time to reacquaint herself to her old family home and sort through her mother's possessions, a death threat arrives to set the tone as to what is to come. Before she can make herself comfortable, Dakota is stabbed which leaves your game character in a state stuck between life and death with her soul separated from her body. Here she will remain until the actual killer has been found and stopped stopped.
Fortunately the death of your character does not mean the end but the start of this Hidden Object Adventure title from Domini Games. Arriving just in time to greet your corpse is Sebille who introduces herself as a friend of your dead mother. She explains your current state of being between death and life. She also reveals that, like your mother, you and her are both witches. It will be up to you to help Sebille track down the mysterious figure who has started to murder every witch they can find in the community.
The usual array of available tools appear across the bottom as scenes as you tackle a variety of tasks that form this game. A Journal will automatically record notes and task details, a Map will show current and locked locations plus where actions and extras might be found, an Inventory indicating which held items will require some work before use, plus a Strategy Guide and Hint features. Occasionally a Return to previous scene will be added to this collection while fly-out option on the left and right of the screen provide Collectible, Puzzles and Decision update information.
Your actual search begins as you join Sebille to visit the Magic Shop she owns, This facility is run by Mr. Sunlight who happens to be a talking cat. Mr. Sunlight advises your character to take part in a Coven Dimension experience which involves a number of tasks that will threaten her knowledge and expand her ability to act as a ghost and carry out witch-like tasks.
Having undertaken these procedure, you find your new-found skills improve as you progress through the game, As a result you are more able to assist Sebille in tracking down the murderer who is know as the Executioner. You will need to move between locations, make decisions, find the correct ingredients to perform rituals and uncover dark magic plus tackle different tasks. You even manage to capture him at one stage but he then escapes.
Among the tasks facing you will be numerous mini game puzzles and a smaller number of Hidden Object scenes. With a choice of East or Hard version, mini game puzzles feature adjusting a ghostly hand, arranging gems in patterns, connecting symbols, matching locks to keys plus arranging items such as wires and bird features.
Identified by an outbreak of sparkles and giving you an option to switch to Match 3 game play, Hidden Object scenes can cover single or multiple screens of viewing as you look for items represented as part of a scene, text, matching items and differences between two scenes that can be viewed separately. In some case you will need to position items in a scene and search for symbols that do not possess a duplicate in the scene.
With plenty of tasks to complete as you learn the Secrets of Salem and solving the mystery of who is killing witches, this title presents its witch community in a more friendly manner.
