Illuminating Space

Bringing light to the Galaxy will open new avenues for Erik to develop.

Continuing its mission to resolve the current state of the Universe, LGT SIA has released the latest entry in its Spellarium series.  Now up to version 12, this Match 3 offering launches you into yet another cosmic challenge to bring the benefits of light to the vast black abyss of space.  You will once again join forces with Eric to achieve this task of illuminating and adorning the boundless darkness of space.  Don't worry as Eric will carry out any heavy lifting and you will just need to provide the skill and game playing technique.

Giving you a choice of playing the game in Relaxed, Time limited or Move restricted, Spellarium 12 allows you to adjust the volume aspects of the game which can be played in full screen mode.  There is also an option to include Hint assistance.  While useful this could mean that the software could detect when you are struggling to complete a level and offer to skip it for you.  This suggestion can be accepted or rejected.

The game spreads its playing field over 90 levels of a mixture of standard Match 3 game play, enhanced with various elements you need to collect while removing other items decorating the playing grid.  A level will be considered complete once you have collected the coins and coloured tiles featured in the grid.  This task can be completed by swapping two adjacent tiles to create and remove groups of three similar embellished tiles.  However other  procedures will be required in order to keep Eric happy and the collection of coins completed.

You will have access to various implements and procedures.  These tools, which do need to be created by the player, are necessary to deliver power-ups functionality.  By carrying out certain routines you can create features such as a Dynamite Pack, Rocket ship or a Bomb that might need to be paired with another similar device in order for detonation to be carried out to serve its purpose.  These tools can then be used to clear unwanted elements.

The grid, which provides your work space, will be populated with all manner of different tiles.  Some will represent fire, water, snow, coal and interactive torches plus  pre-loaded cannon that can prove useful with certain situations.  Adding to the general features of the grid are wandering bugs, vial drops, colbs, stumps and iron boxes that are featured in an available Hint manual with information regarding their use.

As you work through the 90 levels of Match 3 style action, your progress will be interrupted by the occasional arrival of a mini game puzzle.  This could involve a hand of Solitaire as you create chains of cards lower or high that the previous card or complete a Mah-jong layout.  Other types of puzzles could involve spotting the differences between two side-by-side scenes or putting together the pieces of a jigsaw to create a silhouette shape.

You can download Spellarium 12 from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  It is also available at Big Fish Games priced at £7.45.  The game specifications call for a 1.6 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 93.7MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
