For the next episode of its Paranormal Files series, Elephant Games has produced Sacrifice to Shadows.  This Hidden Object adventure title is available in Collector’s Edition format offering a number of bonus items to supplement the main game.  These bonus items allow you to replay Hidden Object scene and mini game puzzles once they have been tackled in the main game.  You will also be able to take part in a special Expedition features and search for Collectibles or puzzle pieces you may have missed when playing the game first time.  You also get access to a bonus chapter.

Various adjustments can be made to the game playing environment on which the main action takes place.  You can adjust volume level for background music, environment effects and dialogue delivered by voice.  Viewing options include displaying the screen in full or wide mode using a custom cursor.  You can also activate special effects.  There is a choice of Casual, Advanced, Hardcore or Custom difficulty level delivering options of faster recharge rates for Hint and Skip features and the amount of information displayed when using a Map feature.

For their latest mission, the members of the Paranormal Detective team, made up of Rachel, Daemon and Rick, are visiting the opening of a rock band preparing to perform at a special concert to their fans. Drawn to this location, as if by a special power, the appearance of a dark shadow attracts the attention of the various team members who immediately set out to investigate the location to discover what is happening.  Assisting the Paranormal team members will be a set of tools running across the base of the various scenes.

These tools consist of a Map, revealing the current location and possible sites to visit, the current Task, Inventory of gathered items with an indication as to which items require some work before use, and access to a Strategy Guide and rechargeable Hint feature.  This collection of tools can be locked in position or left to disappear when not required.

The team quickly arrive at the conclusion that a force known as the Dark Muse is involved and is attempting to gather the souls of as many people as possible starting with the souls and fealty of the volunteer fans of the rock band who have been drawn under the influence of the Dark Muse.  In order to defeat this evil spirit and restore the damage it has already done, you will need to join the team, visit a variety of locations, gather items and carry out numerous tasks that sometimes involve taking part in a fight.

Scattered throughout the game are Hidden Object scenes and mini game puzzles.  Hidden Object scenes will announce their presence with an outbreak of sparkles.  When displaying the list of required items, Hidden Object scenes could use text, silhouettes or images.  In some instances you might need to replace objects in a scene.

Mini puzzle game action could involve moving elements around a scene through the use of vertical and horizontal slider bars.  Other type of puzzles could include making adjustment to synchronise different wave patterns and travel through a maze to arrive at the necessary destination within a designated number of move.

I felt this game’s story line was a little disjointed and it failed to fully draw me into its atmosphere.  You can download Paranormal Files – Sacrifice to Shadows Collector’s Edition from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99.  It is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £14.74.  The game requires a 2.5 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 572MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
