Dual Karaoke System Voco Pro

This is a dual Karaoke system not a toy or an add on to something else, a two mike system and decent amplifier that means in your own home – not the pub – you can find out for yourself how good or bad your voice is without witnesses.

It consists of the main box 30x20x17cm that contains the amplifier for the dual microphones.
The microphones are 23.5cm long and wireless that link to the amplifier without problem, they weigh 216grams with the two ‘AA’ batteries inserted, the batteries are not supplied.

Each microphone has nine buttons on the front so they can be controlled separately.

There is a 1.5metre long lead that fits into the rear of the amplifier and as this unit came from the USA it had a US plug but a UK adapter was supplied. The total weight of the main box is 3.135kilos not heavy by amplifier standards but it has a carry handle set into the top of the unit.

Beside the power input is a 3.5mm socket so you can play your tunes through the amplifier, towards the other end of the back is an optical socket to allow input from your TV, a short optical cable is supplied as is an audio cable.

A pieced grill runs the full width of the front this allows you to see the two 6cm circular speakers behind it. The base has 2cm tall feet at the corners and a separate grill covers the sub-woofer on the underside of the unit.

There is an 8.5x3.7cm display in the centre of the front and controls for both the channels as well some other controls.

The first question is can you insert two ‘AA’ batteries in a microphone and turn the unit on and get resultant ‘sounds’ from it, yes you can, I did it as most people will, but at that point you are not using the unit correctly.

RTFM is often the mantra and it certainly is here.

There are three methods of inputting music, by Bluetooth, by Optical or by 3.5mm lead; all are easy to set up so now you just need a voice or voices to accompany the music. If your choice is Bluetooth the controls allow you to move back and forward through music tracks and also play or pause a track.

There is a 16page A5 manual and pages 8 thru 13 cover the controls and how to use the unit. This is clear and well laid out with plenty of diagrams.

The microphones can be mono or stereo and it is possible to mute one when both microphones are in use. Each microphone has a four channel equalizer that does nothing, increases bass, increases mid register or increase high frequencies. Each microphone can change the volume of the music and also the volume of the microphone. The microphones have a range of 50-20000Hz and the speakers have 100wats output split between each speaker at 25watts and the sub-woofer at 50watts.

If you are using optical as the input you will need to change from Dolby to PCM to lose a possible buzzing sound often heard when input is from external sources.

Each microphone can be as much as 12 metres from the amplifier in a large room, far less if you have solid walls to travel through.

So now you know if you should enter the local Karaoke competition at the pub or club or not, and guess what no one no even you has been embarrassed if the answer was ‘not’ and if the answer was ‘should’ you can keep rehearsing your technique.

Currently the VocoPro Portable Dual Karaoke System is available from the Amazon for £269.99.
