This is the latest A4 multi-function device to land in my hall. It is not that light and I think it has the most strips of orange tape of any unit I have reviewed. This is a colour laser unit and by default it prints double sided, unlike most units I have reviewed previously it lines things up correctly on the second side.

So after around twenty minutes of strong language I am ready to place it in its review position, I plug in the mains lead and then spend a couple of minutes looking for the on/off button which I eventually find under the large display.

Around five minutes answers all the questions at the unit so then with CD in hand move to the PC. It has already asked for the code for my Wi-Fi so I am hopeful of not having to search for MAC address, after a few questions it cannot find the unit so back to it and search through lots of sections until I find the MAC address and the third group of three numbers is two digits so to stop its annoying beeping I have to add a ‘0’ before I can enter the last set and joy it accepts it and I can then proceed to install of drivers etc.

Unusually it does not want to print a test page – that is how I know it prints double sided by default – so I give it a file I am working on of six sides and three pages of paper are used, excellent.

Around 45 minutes after lifting it from its box and starting to remove orange tape it is ready to go into use.

The unit is a 41cm square with just the 13x11cm display protruding by 5cm from the front. The unit weighs 19kilos.

The power lead is in an indent back right and the external connections of Ethernet/USB/USB out back left also in an indent so no need to allow extra space behind for leads.

In my tests I got close to 20PPM but the unit is not that quiet while working.

Copying can be flatbed or page feed on top of the flatbed.

Scanning also works well.

I always use a range of papers and weight of papers but here I never had a single paper jam.

This unit is a little large for standard home use but a home office for a small business would be excellent.

At the time of publication the Canon i-SensysMF655Cdw is available from Amazon for £279.90.
