Nespresso Expert & Milk

A Nespresso coffee machine called ‘Expert’ & milk. So if you like black coffee there are cheaper options, but even if you only like a frothy coffee once in a while then this offering from Magimix could well be just the thing.

The work ‘Expert’ here means you have choices as to the size of the cup and even to the heat of the water both things that you do not directly have in most other machines. Yes you can always stop the flow early or even add more over the used pod but you certainly only have one water temperature, with the ‘Expert’ you can choose both.

It is 36.5cm wide, 21cm deep and 28cm tall. Both the milk unit and the water tank sit on the right side of the unit.

The water unit holds more than two pints of water and connects by a reassuring twist into the rubber grip section so this should avoid any seepage that occurs with machines.

The Milk unit is exactly the same as supplied with the recently reviewed Citiz machine; it is circular and has a non-stick type surface on the inside so is wipe clean, the same magnetic grip for the milk frother so even semi skimmed milk can get a frothy head.

The coffee machine itself is where the difference is and I assume the reason it is called ‘Expert’ is that you have choices.

There is the on/off button on the top that first turns the machine on and heats the water, press it again with whatever settings you have chosen and the magic begins.

Like most recent Nespresso machines the coffee is made at 19 bar pressure which is more than most other units.

The pod is dropped into an open area that is covered by a lid slide and once the process starts this slider cannot be opened until a few seconds after the process is finished and then the pod is ejected into the container below this I found could accommodate around 12 used pods.

The front of the machine has three circular dials the leftmost is where the coffee is produced from, it has two taps the left one sends the dispensed coffee and the right one water if you choose the largest cup size.

The middle dial rotates and your choice of five cup sizes is highlighted. The right most dial is a red thermometer that lets you choose the coffee heat it always defaults to heat three but a small turn gives you heat four the hottest it stops flashing when the water has reached the required heat.

There are two instruction books one is a generic one that also shows the whole range of Nespresso coffee types available. The second one is an annoying multi language offering which also mentions the possibility of linking the coffee machine to your phone – something I did not try – and there is also a small getting started sheet that uses only diagrams and numerals.

The machine comes with a selection of 16 different pods to try and once you find the blends you like there is an opening offer for you to purchase more online.

The Nespresso Magimix Expert is available from Currys stores or onling for £274.99.
