Developed by Itera Labs, Mystery Trip is a Hidden Object game that casts you in the role of an adventurer who doubles as a prospective hunter willing to put his skills to the test in order to earn rewards in order to finance his future enterprises. In this case, he decides to search for five strange animals that were the beloved pets of a young girl who was a passenger in the ship caught in the storm mentioned earlier. As she was also the daughter of a wealthy merchant, she had persuaded her father to offer a sizeable reward for the recovery of her pets. This was just the incentive you needed to embark on your next adventure by boarding a ship and search for the animals.
As you might normally expect with such titles, the game allows you to set volume levels for background music, sound effects and ambiance plus screen size with a hardware mouse pointer, The game can be played in a choice of difficulty levels as you select from Easy, Normal, Hard or one where you set various boundaries and settings. Providing assistance as you move between a variety of scenes, including some set in an underwater environment, an array of tools will be provided to assist the player.
As you move between the well-drawn scenes, you will encounter different characters, such as a ship's captain, monk, winemaker and a professor plus a monster in charge of a garden, with their dialogue presented in text format. Tasks will often need to be completed with the action spread over several scenes. Mixed in with the various tasks, as you search for the strange creatures, will be a collection of mini game puzzles and Hidden Object game play.
While the mini game puzzles will be presented in an overlaid window, the presence of a Hidden Object challenge will be announced by the appearance of an outbreak of sparkled. Mini game puzzles could require you to arrange items such as links of a chain in different colours, move sections of an image, place sections of a stain-glass window and arrange symmetrical items. Other tasks could include shooting bottles on a wall, completing regular and irregular jigsaws, clear a Mah-jong layout and remember which photos appeared previously.
Hidden Object game play will require you to find a list of objects. Some items will be coloured green while others will be coloured yellow. Items coloured green will be available immediately while those coloured yellow will require some work before they become available. In some scenes you will need to find a set number of an item type. The item could consist of dolls, knives, balls, sketches, bullets, apples, magnets or paired items.
Having completed the main game, you can move on and access the Extras that come bundled with this offering. You can replay the background music tracks, view and save wallpaper scenes, check out cut-scenes, replay puzzles and mini games featured in the main title.
