Huawei nova 5T

Unlike a number of other Huawei SmartPhones this arrived with little fanfare. It is that little bit smaller than some and for a lot of people this may seem a good feature, so what exactly has this latest offering to offer the user.

It is 15x7.4x.8cm and weighs 177grams. It has 3mm borders except at the base where it is 5mm.

The viewable screen is 6.8x14.5cm which gives the notional diagonal imperial screen measurement of 6.26 inches. The selfie camera is top left corner of the display. The screen is 2340x1080 and is easy to read.

Going around the outside has the volume rocker and slightly inset on/off button on the right side. The base has the USB ‘C’ socket for charging and OTG devices with the speaker and pin hole microphone either side of it. The left side has entry point for SIM only. On the back is a slightly raised area towards the left edge with a vertical line of the three cameras and LED flash. Beside the third camera down not on the raised area is the forth camera this is the macro offering. The back on my unit is glass and was a shiny reflective blue which does tend to show finger marks.

To switch the unit on needs the on/off button held for four seconds, and to switch off the same slightly extended time followed by two screen touches to switch off. Switch on is thirteen seconds after the four second hold.

It comes with Android 9 and an EMUI skin. The latter had two updates during my review period but both were quick to install.

The processor is a Kirin 980. It has 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage with all but 16GB of that available. The battery is 3750mAh so should last more than a day for most users.

The main rear camera is a 48MP one with 16MP wide angle and 2MP depth assisting offering as stated the macro offering is set to the side this last offering works as close as 4cm (around 1.7 inches). The front offering is 32MP.

Video can be 4K shot at 30FPS and full HD at 30 or 60FPS.

This unit seems to have a sub £400 price point and at that price it’s a bargain with lots of its features coming from its high end cousins.

However as Mr Trump has problems with Huawei you may prefer to get it on contract and this unit came from Vodafone who offer it for £28 a month with a £9 upfront amount.
