Honor Magic5 Lite

This is the latest offering to cross my desk; it is a SmartPhone that takes the screen right to the edge of the display. Like most recent quality SmartPhones it is all about the cameras and here they are amazingly good. The rest of the phone is also rather nice.

The Honor Magic5 Lite measures 15.7x7.5x.7cm and it weighs 177 grams. The viewable screen is 15.5x7.2cm which gives the notional diagonal imperial measurement of 6.67 inches. The screen resolution is 2400x1080.

As supplied to me there is 6GB of RAM + 5GB Turbo, 128 GB of storage and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor. For those who need it the USB ‘C’ connection also supports an OTG (on the go) storage device.

This phone came with Android 12 and Magic UI 6.1.

During my rather short review period I normally have one gig that I capture videos and images, just by chance this period had an extra gig where the light is not quite as good and so it was a better test and I was perfectly happy with the images but I was blown away by the videos, like so many gigs you get there early and have a chance of a seat or a standing position in a less noisy area both normally have a problem in that you are too close to get all of a quintet in one image.

Recent better quality SmartPhones have an ultra-wide angle mode that normally only applies to photos but I was pleasantly surprised to see it also worked here with videos. At this point I was very happy but as I was still to see the results once captured remained impressed. The next day when I had downloaded the two videos to my PC and watched them the sound was excellent and the video even better this to my mind makes this a SmartPhone to go on a ‘very short list’ if you ever need to take wide angle videos in an enclosed space.

Going around the outside has volume up and down and on/off on the right side. The bass has USB ‘C’, speaker and microphone as well as SIM entry point. The left side is clear while the top has another microphone.

The back has a 5.5cm ring with cameras .7cm from the top and 1cm from the left and right, the LED flash is at the base of the ring. The cameras are 64MB main camera, 5MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro. The front – selfie – offering is 16MP.

It has a huge 5100mAh battery so for even the heavier user should last two days.

The cameras were excellent and in my short testing period I could find no real problems anywhere.

At the time of publication the Honor Magic5 Lite is available from Amazon for £329.99.
