Acer Travel Mate P6

Certainly not a cheap notebook, however it is a very powerful offering that is capable of doing everything you ask and it does it all within a small footprint so easy to use at home, in the office, or on your travels. So the name is right this is a Travel Mate.

It is 32.5x23x1.5cm the last figure is maximum as it is only 1cm at the front, it weighs 1218 grams.

The viewable screen is 31x17.4cm which gives the notional diagonal imperial measurement of 13.8 inches. The screen surround is matt black so less finger marks. There is a .7cm border either side, the top border is 1.3cm and the bottom border is close to 3cm. In the top border has a web cam complete with shutter for privacy and a pin hole microphone.

It has an 84 key keyboard with the alpha and numeric keys being full size. There is 4cm clear behind the keyboard with only the on/off button in this area, there is 2cm clear either side of the keyboard and 8.5cm clear in front of the keyboard with the 10.5x6.5cm trackpad mounted 9.5cm from the left and 12.5cm from the right.

The left side has the charge port, HDMI out, USB3, USB ‘C’ and 3.5mm socket for headphones. The front has two pin hole LED’s, the right side has a micro SD slot, USB3, Ethernet and a Kensington Lock port. The back has ventilation slots and the screen goes back just beyond 180 degrees.

The base has a 1.5cm square rubber foot at each corner to help ventilation.

It has an Intel i7 quad core processor running at 1.8GHz, there is 16GB RAM and a 1GB SSD drive this means you have around 910GB free.  There is a NVIDIA GeForce MX250 with 2GB of graphics memory. Unlike most recent offerings to cross my desk this has Windows 10 Pro.

This is a touch screen unit that works well and it also works just as well using the Touchpad for those who prefer it.

Bootup is an amazing seven seconds while shutdown is only three seconds.

It came with Windows build 1909 (one behind the latest 2004).

Touchscreen units are always more expensive and dependant on your usage this may or may not be important to you.

This i7 processor is fast and unlike recent units I have seen it comes with a 1TB SSD which means a good amount of storage for those who need to move around with large programs and files, the goodies are completed by a micro SD card slot which means easy transfer to and from other mobile devices. The beautiful matt screen avoids showing most finger marks.

As an example of the processors speed at the end of every review I reset the unit and this can take a long time. Here it takes only an amazing 16 minutes.

This unit is available direct from Acer and should you need other items at the same time then the £1299.99 could be reduced, view link below.
