The majority of mobile phone content is and will continue to be downloaded by a call of some type. However read on further for a totally new transmission method.
The conference was the chief exec of this and some other big wheel of that, they had a lot to say, the format was refreshing in that part of their time had to be given over to answering questions, part from a moderator and part from the audience.
In this short piece I cannot mention everyone so I will mention just Rio Caraeff Vice President of Universal Music who has also worked at Sony so that gives an insight from a fairly wide section.
I am sure we all have suffered badly translated content edited from something that may have been a hit in the past. Rob was at great pains to say that Universal are producing content recorded specially for Mobile by well known artists. While the young are into their brands of music a certain musician whose name sounds rather like the US chocolate brand M&N but is spelt very differently is one of the artists and 200 pieces are being recorded specially for mobile phone and they will not be available in other formats.
So those in love with Hip Hop, Rap and Rock will be well served but mention was also made of music of 20 years ago, there may be something for dad & mum as well.
As a mobile is a far more personal item than any computer it is not surprising that adult content was a big item in the show. There were many whispers about the Pink £ but none of the vendors were openly talking about that development.
CellJump have MCP (patented) technology, simply put it is like an external drive for a mobile phone, the unit I have seen was 6x4.5x1.5cm, it was called Action 01 and fits onto a mobile phone via the fitting at the base of the phone. Currently available for Nokia 3100, 3105, 3200, 5100, 6100, 6108, 6610, 6610i and 7200. Other manufacturers phones will be covered later this year and at the beginning of 2006.
The exciting thing is that it could be used to transfer anything to the mobile phone even anti virus software. Currently the 1MB unit I saw had games, wallpapers and animations. Other units are in production and I suspect the promised puzzles will be a big favourite I certainly would like to see one anyway.
Even though the producers have content I can see the big sales being in allowing the technology to be used by others for transfer of their products and services. This has the potential to be as big as the CD-ROM was for the PC.
CellJump is a UK based company and the MCP unit was launched at Mobile Content World. Think content transfer without having to go near a server, this could mean no costs for the user other than the MCP unit. Content you really know the cost of before purchase, something the user really wants.
