Lavazza Favola Cappuccino

Over the years I have reviewed a number of coffee machines, all have been very popular with readers, some seem to think that the coffee from ‘Pod’ machines is not hot enough, so this unit that uses fresh milk that it heats could be their answer.

This machine has one huge plus over other Lavazza machines for those who love Cappuccinos and Lattes a milk froth maker is attached.

The size without the milk froth maker attached to the right side is 28x21x23cm the unit wider at the front and is only 12cm at the rear, the hard wired mains lead emerges from under the water tank so these figures are maximum.

The jug used to froth the milk clips onto the right side and this adds 11cm to the width of the unit, however for those who want black coffee or black with a splash of cold milk this does need to be attached.

The front of the unit has a drip tray and any cup or mug can be inserted on it and removed without tipping if it is 11cm or less. For those who prefer short black the spout can be pulled down by up to 3cm.

There are two pairs of buttons near the top the two on the left light white when water is heated and show a picture of an Expresso and an Expresso Lungo and a single press of either will deliver a measured amount of water over the pod that sits under a stainless steel lever, if however you prefer your coffee stronger or weaker then by keeping the button pressed you determine the exact amount to suit your taste. For black or white with a splash of cold milk you are done, enjoy the Lavazza coffee.

If however your choice is Cappuccino or Latte then a single press on either of the right side pair of buttons. In my tests I found 60ml of cold milk produced nearly a whole cup of foam but just like the strength of coffee it’s to your taste. This process will take up to 80 seconds and not only is the milk whisked but steam is input and you can stop the process by another touch of the button.

In my tests I found from first switch on with cold water in the tank that sits behind the unit and cold milk in the jug attached to the right side of the unit warm up was 40 seconds, making the black coffee another 40 seconds and the alchemy around 80 seconds to make around 260ml of hot foam from the 60ml of cold milk. So just under 3 minutes from staggering to the machine a piping hot Cappuccino or Latte is available, less time than you would spend waiting in a coffee shop and you don’t even have to get dressed.

A wipe will clean the outside of the machine, the whisk and shout that delivers the foam can be rinsed under a tap but do not immerse the top part of the unit. The jug can be washed up normally with other items.

The used pods go into a container in the machine each time you operate the lever, this along with the drip tray can be washed up normally.

While the coffee is the same as with other Lavazza machines the plus here is the foam that you can normally only get from a coffee shop.

The Lavazza Favola Cappuccino is available from the link below for £129 with free next day delivery even on a Sunday.
