Epson XP-3100

This is a quiet small four ink printer that can also scan and copy. However for those who print large documents or lots of pictures not for you as the ink cartridges are not large, they do an XL option but still in the space for cartridges this cannot be for the heavy user. However for those who want to print a few top quality images its fine.

It is 36x29x16cm when closed. It’s not heavy at around 4.5kilos. With a stack of A4 paper in the back tray and the front outlet tray fully extended it’s around 50cm from back to front.

Power enters back left.

In the past I have had problems setting Epson printers up via Wi-Fi, here no difficult questions or having to attach a USB lead (none supplied) to complete the setup. It was simple and quick to do; if there other printers registered you may have to manually set it up as ‘default printer’.

For those printing from a phone it’s even easier download the Epson App and answer a couple of simple questions make sure the unit is turned and that is it.

The only print figures I am going to give is printing an A4 image borderless in high quality to best quality paper takes just under six minutes from sending to looking at a dry to touch top quality print. For text standard print a database of fifteen pages with forty two lines of text printed two up took sixty eight seconds from sending till the final page was delivered. The text was very sharp and a good black colour.

This unit can also do double sided printing.

It can of course copy and I printed a full colour image in 50 seconds, very crisp and very sharp.

Scanning can be set either from the unit or if using a PC from that end without USB. In my tests it was only possible to scan from the Unit via USB. Scanning options include PDF, Email or JPG. The resolution is 2400x1200 DPI.

I see that the rear paper tray is said to handle up to 100 sheets, while I never got to that capacity I found that sixty sheets of A4 was comfortably held and fed through when required.

I mentioned the cartridges being small and I see the stated capacity for each cartridge is 130 pages and 500 pages for the XL versions.

With more people just using mobile devices this works well from the App as far as Android is concerned, I did not test the Apple App.

If there is not a home network it is possible to set up Wi-Fi direct where just your phone and the XP-3105 are linked.

The controls of the unit are on a fold flat or raised area with the small display giving options all are clear and easy to use.

It’s easy to use gives good sharp images and prints borderless.

At the time of publication the Epson Expression XP-3100 is available from Amazon for £49.99 including free delivery.
