Zippo HeatBank 6

This is not one product but two in one. It is a charge device for things like mobile phones when away from a USB port. However it is also something to keep you warm when out and about a small HeatBank that can keep your hands warm.

If – like me – you are of a certain age then the name Zippo will remind you of a lighter. Indeed when I was searching for a price I see they still exist.

The Zippo HeatBank 6 measures 10.5x4.3x2cm and weighs 141 grams. Unlike other charge devices the sides of this unit are not sharp but curved so it rolls nicely in your hands.

At one end is a connection point for a supplied lanyard. At the other end the connections. Micro USB to charge this device and USB for power output from this unit. These two connections are above one another on one side of the end; the centre has a line of three LED’s that show the charge level of the device and also the heat output of the unit. To complete the controls a round push button a short push will show the level of charge and a four second push will turn the unit on to deliver heat, it always starts at level one – one LED – another short push ups it to level two and one more to maximum heat output. Push again and hold for another four seconds to turn it off.

It is stated to work for ‘up to six hours’ delivering heat. The instructions suggest you turn it on in your pocket as heat will immediately permeate your hand rather than heating the outside temperature first.

To use as a Power Bank you will need the cable supplied with your phone or other device you are charging to fit in the USB port on the end of the unit.

Initially you might be surprised that the second port is Micro USB rather than USB ‘C’ but this stops confusion as some might expect output from it if it was USB ‘C’.

A 60cm long Micro USB to USB lead is provided to charge the Power Bank/HeatBank unit. Also in the box is a  lanyard as well as a fold out multi-language instruction sheet.

As a gift this is something that will be used both to keep the persons hands warm and to charge their mobile device, it’s certainly a gift that will be remembered.

At the time of publication the Zippo HeatBank 6 is available from Amazon for £26.29
