Skyroam Solis X

Mobile Wi-Fi in almost any country, this is what this small orange coloured unit promises. Like the majority of things today it is run from an iOS or Android App. Once the App is downloaded and the Solis is charged a couple of minutes for setup should have you connected anywhere.

While I cannot claim to have used this in the Scottish Highlands, the Sahara Desert or the middle of the Atlantic Ocean everywhere I did try it I got the ability to collect and send emails and browse the Internet, with a SIM inserted in your phone you can also send and receive phone calls and SMS messages, that last statement may seem strange of course you have a SIM in your phone but I deliberately set up a brand new phone so it never had my Wi-Fi information so it could not use it.

The unit is orange in colour and round at just under 9cm and 2cm thick. This is not just a hot spot but also a charge bank and it even has a built in camera.

So download the App, join, and once you have confirmed your email address you can use this to do everything you normally do on a PC or phone.

You get in the box with the orange unit a 45cm long USB ‘C’ to USB cable and a 9cm long USB ‘C’ to USB adapter so whatever type of phone you use you can charge it from the bank. There is also an instruction card.

The box it comes in is well padded so can be popped in a bag and then produced for those times when Wi-Fi or other connections do not work.

For a small office this could be a lifesaver as several people can connect to the Solis X at the same time.

The Skyroam says instant Wi-Fi in 130+ countries with zero roaming fees, SIM free, connect up to five devices.

As far as I can see the charges are £7 a day or £79 per month with no limit on the amount of data used.

I was sent a unit with an amount of data on it which I used in several locations and on two different phones.

For those who travel outside the UK it could save huge roaming charges on both calls and even data.

Other features included include a Smart Assistant and an 8MP camera that comes with storage available for your images.

A good sized power bank at 4700mAh could also keep you going when power could also be a problem, the latter may even apply for a small office as when there is a power cut then there is or course no Internet.

So this small round orange object can keep you connected in the middle of nowhere, your home or even in your office.

For more details of the Skyroam Solis X check their website. You can purchase with or without data. At the time of publication this is available for £179.99 without data.
