Samsung Galaxy A52

This is the latest Samsung offering to cross my desk, my unit has a matt sky blue back, a shiny slightly darker blue sides and a very shiny front. There are a vertical line of three cameras top left of the back and a forth camera and LED flash beside these.

The Samsung Galaxy A52 measures 15.6x7.3x.8cm and it weighs 189grams. The viewable screen is 15x6.7cm which gives the notional diagonal imperial measurement of close to 6½ inches. The display is 2400x1080 which is called FHD+.

Going around the outside the right side has the volume rocker and below this the on/off button. The base has microphone, 3.5mm socket for headphones, speaker and USB ‘C’ socket. The left side is clear and the top has microphone, speaker and SIM entry point, it can also take a micro SD card up to 1TB.

The rear has the four cameras and LED flash in a 4x2.5cm slightly raised area in the top left corner .5cm in from the side and .5cm down from the top. While it is not waterproof it is described as ‘spill splash and splatter resistant’ and in the small print it can withstand 30 minutes in up to one meter depth of water so it can have a bath with you, however I did not try this.

Sound quality through the twin speakers was quite good and Samsung call it surround sound.

The supplied battery is 4500mAh and so for most that should last a couple of days between charges.

It has an Octa-core processor 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

This is an Android unit and it comes with version 11.

While this is a 5G SmartPhone it also works fine on 4G. For me the star of this unit are the cameras taking an image in my lounge on a very dull day with the curtains drawn and almost no light in the room with Night Mode produced an image without flash that looked like a bright sunny day you just need to hold it still for a few seconds to get an amazing shot.

So first the front selfie unit this is a 32MP offering and better than most stand-alone cameras could capture only a few years ago.

Now onto the array on the rear, the top offering the vertical line of three is a 12MP ultra-wide F2.2, below this is the main camera 64MP F1.8 and below that 5MP depth camera F2.4. The forth camera is the macro offering 5MP F2.4.

A normal wide angle offering would give around an 81degree offering while the ultra-wide offering gives over 50% more at 123degrees. If you have tried to capture a group shot where lack of space stops you going back more this is superb.

The videos that can be captured now make a camcorder totally redundant. UHD (4K) 3840x2160 @30FPS and slow motion @240 FPS.

As an amateur photographer why carry a camera for day to day images when this is ready almost at once to capture that image and the quality is excellent.

The Samsung Galaxy A52 is available from Vodafone on a range of pay monthly deals from only £26 a month with £19 upfront from the first link below.
