Continuing its Jewel Match series of titles, Suricate Software has produced a festive offering entitled Winter Wonderland 3. Available in Collector's Edition format, this title bundles extra levels, bonus games, wallpaper and a Snowglobes display feature to enhance the 120 levels of main Match 3 action plus a number of tutorial levels to lead you through the different types of problems you are likely to face throughout the main game as you assist Santa and the Elf carry out their jobs and thwart the efforts of Grumplestilk to cause problems.
As usual with Suricate Software titles, you are provided with the full range of adjustments which can be made to the gaming environment. Volume levels and background brightness levels can be adjusted. You can opt to turn on/off features such as interactive help. static pieces. match hints and use a custom pointer. There are also options to disable visual FXs and turn on OpenGL video settings. You can play this game with a choice of difficulty levels as you select from Relaxed, Moves restricted or Time limited with the latter two also having settings for Normal, Advanced or Extreme levels.
When faced by the main Match 3 elements of this game. you will need to make use of the basic operation of creating groups of similarly embellished tiles. This is achieved by the process of swapping two adjacent units. The created group then disappears to be replaced by other tiles falling downwards.
Along with the usual assortment of tiles used in games of this type, Suricate Software has gone overboard with its goodie bag of tricks to amuse the player. You could encounter three different types of amulet that each need to be moved in a specific direction to the edge of the grid. When creating a group with more than four tiles, you will find you get a reward of a Magic Sleigh, Multicoloured tile or a Moving bomb to help clear a grid using available tools.
Of the more regular tile types you could come across in grids are Lucky Clover, Present Boxes, Fog Vials, Lava Drops. single or double bands of Chain, blocking wooden boxes, a Spiked Mace, dark Fog, Turtle, Stone, Fishnet, Magic Arrows and features such as snow, ice, lightning, atomic effect, conveyor belt and red walls that block progress but allow matches. Even with all these various elements, you still need to remember that Suricate Software titles have a habit of keeping some elements available off screen through the use of multi-linked grids referred to as rooms.
In such instances you could be working on a grid which has certain arrows located beyond the grid edge. These arrows will point and direct you to another grid or room located up, down, left or right to access another grid or room. This other grid could hold an item you need to gain access to an important area on the first grid and complete its task. This item could be a coloured key or specific tool.
This continue elsewhere approach does not stop with linked grids. The rewards earned by completing the Match 3 levels can be used to finance the building of elements to decorate various background scenes. You pick the building or element and the program selects where it is to be located.
Having completed the winding trail of Match 3 levels set out on a path, you will gain access to a further 20 levels of Match 3 action and 12 bonus games although this latter feature does require the collection of enough toys. You can download Jewel Match - Winter Wonderland 3 from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99. The game requires a 1.2 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 595MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
