But recently there has been a change of circumstances. From unknown sources, accursed objects were infiltrating the various areas of the Academy. These objects were infecting everybody with students being affected so strongly that they became hollow-shells and turned into corpses. Obviously somebody would need to come to the rescue of the Academy. And so the scene is set for IKi Games "Claire Darksage and the Advanced Object" title which forms the basis for this next review.
With the usual options to adjust volume levels and screen size, you can opt to play this game in Easy, Normal or Expert difficulty level. The game splits its content into sections covering Hidden Object game play, battle contests against various opponents and mini game puzzle solving. Inserted between the three different elements are various cut-scenes featuring different characters, including a dog and a visiting helpful fairy, as the story line progresses through the steps that Claire must take to restore the Academy to its more friendly state and the delivery of its achievements.
Central to the whole platform of the game is the Hidden Object aspect. Based on different locations, you will be presented with a rather untidy scene featuring items that are mainly scattered around. Arranged across the bottom of the scene will be six labels identifying items that need to be found. The three labels on the left will indicate Light items while the labels on the right show items graded as Dark items. With some scenes the labelled images of items could be split into sections which does increase the difficulty of finding the appropriate item.
Hovering the mouse cursor over a label will slightly enlarge it and you also have access to a magnifier to help when searching the scene for items. Even with these aids I often struggled to find required items and would often resort to the use of a Hint feature in the shape of an eye to locate some items.
When clearing away the Cursed Objects, you may encounter those responsible for this attack on the Academy and Kingdom. These encounters will result in a battle sequence played out against a backdrop of symbols which provide the ammunition used by the contestants in the battle that follows. You get to select your choice of symbols while your opponent responds appropriately with a software selected response.
Adding to the action a number of tasks will appear in the form of mini game puzzles. Sometimes the puzzle could involve a game of cards as you guess whether your card will be higher or lower that the previous card. Other tasks could include arranging tiles in rows and columns that do not contain duplicates, finding pairs in a scenes, completing a jigsaw or placing strips in order to create a scene.
As the game develops, various characters such as Fabio, Seth, Mordazor, Lucinda, Tiska the Fairy, an actor captured from the real world and a dog work together to find the Golden Skulls which can be used to pay for upgrades and stop the cultists and the Cult of Shadows responsible for the attack on the Academy. Available in Collector's Edition format, this title can be download from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at £19.99 or from Big Fish Games where it is priced at £15.08.. The game will require a 2.0 GHz processor with 4096MB of RAM and 845MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
