Canon Portable Scanner Image Formula R10

Over the years I have reviewed a lot of scanners, all previous units required installation not so here, just open the box plug the USB lead into your PC or Notebook, plug the other end into the rear of the unit. Open the lid that forms part of input tray add a sheet of paper and press the button. You now have a .PDF copy of that sheet of paper on your Desktop.

The Canon Portable Scanner ImageFormula R10 measures 28x9.5x4cm when closed; add another 10cm to the depth and 8cm to the height when open. The weight is something that with Desktop items I normally do not give but here as its portable I will, it is just on a kilo.

The outside of the unit has the mini USB connector on the rear with a Kensington Lock Port to its right.

Flip open the lid and towards the right is the start button that is it, there are no more controls.

This is ideal for anyone who moves around, firstly as it has no power requirements just connection between it and your Notebook, Tablet or PC. Second and perhaps more important its lack of size and weight.

It has the ability to load up to 20 sheets of A4 on its ADF. I am told it also works with MAC as well as PC’s.

Great in a classroom as the teacher can scan work from A4 sheets straight into their notebook meaning they do not have to handle sheets of paper that may have Covid.

The 12PPM speed means an average class of single sheets of paper can be scanned in only a few minutes. I note the monthly stated work load for this scanner is 500 scans.

If you do not want to scan to .PDF then other options are available.

Perhaps its main use however is for someone whose work office is their car, scan required documents to be checked elsewhere and the originals can remain with the owner.

Even documents that were less than perfect with folds etc. reducing the image quality still scanned correctly in my range of paper tests.

For me anyway just plugging the mini USB lead to the USB on your PC and scan with no delay is the thing that makes this a viable item.

At the time of publication the Canon Image Formula R10 Scanner is available from Amazon for £205.98.
