Morphee Sleep Aid

I do not sleep well so when I get a chance to review items that might improve my sleep I take them. This tool is speech and music and while I have managed to fall asleep in a boring presentation in the past this is something new to me.

The Morphee Sleep Aid is round at 8cm and 6cm tall without its wooden lid in place, I used it with its built in speaker but if you need more volume then use its 3.5mm socket to connect to external offerings.

There are eight subjects and eight different items on each subject, there is a male and a female voice and there should be 8 minute and 20 minute versions of each offering; however despite my best endeavours I was only able to access the 20 minute versions.

The unit is solid battery powered and once an article is finished it turns itself off.

Should you wish you can play the same article or piece of music as many times as you like as you select what to play using three brass looking twist keys on the top of the unit.

The first key moves through 1 to 8. The second key has the eight subjects. The third key should move between 8 and 20 minute articles. You change from male to female voice by a slider on the side. Beside this are + and – touch buttons. The only other controls are on/off and start and in the centre of the three keys on top of the unit is an LED that glows orange when power is applied unless you are near to an exhausted battery when it glows red, either way it turns off during playing.

Apart from a USB charging lead in the box is a lovely tactile pale wooden lid to cover the ‘control keys’ when not in use and a 12x12.5cm forty page booklet that explains everything as well giving an outline of what each of the subjects is.

Both the male and female voices are very soothing and their delivery extremely slow with long pauses and indeed on occasions it was a while after they had finished before I realised that.

The one section that had no appeal to me was the music, I love music just not the type that was supplied.

If you listen to the speech and get involved in the subjects it will stop you thinking about other things and in these days of vastly increased energy bills that has got to be a plus even if it only delays the thoughts for a short while.

What you should get – when the 8 minute option works – are 210 sessions of meditation and sophrology to help you fall asleep quickly and sleep deeply! 8 themes: Body, Breathing, Movement, Visualisation, Cardiac coherence, Napping, Nature sounds and Relaxing music. Each theme contains 32 different sessions (male or female voice, 8 or 20 minutes). It is also available in French for slightly more.

At the time of publication the Morphee Sleep Aid is available from Amazon for £79.95.
