Brooks Trainers

It’s been a while since a pair of shoes or trainers has passed over my desk. Here an offering from Brooks that will support the complete foot. When I first took them from the box I thought that they looked a little small but a comparison with what was currently on my feet disproved that.

Like clothes shoe sizes do vary and I have in the past been happy and comfortable with some shoes that are sold as 9½ but others need to be 10.

I loosened the laces as they arrived tightly tied and then loosened them some more and still my foot resisted and then I realised that the top edge of the trainer was rubberised for extra grip and so while the laces do have a job to perform you need to push quite hard to insert the foot but when in the trainer the foot is held very securely.

Twice in the last ten years I have turned my ankle in shoes that do not give overall support the last time was the summer of 2019 and when I got to see my doctor – you could after a couple of weeks delay still get to see a doctor then – she said ‘I did it wrong’ I looked puzzled she added that I had pulled all the ligaments in my ankle and if I had broken it then it would have healed more quickly. It was around three months before I could walk any distance again.

Now I tend to wear shoes or trainers that give all round support and so this offering from Brooks is ideal, you could probably totally remove the laces and shake your feet in the air and they would stay on your feet.

The elasticated area runs for twelve centimetres from the back to the start of the laces on either side, the amount of elastication is greatest in the four centimetres near the back of the trainer and indeed at the back it is nine centimetres from the top of the sole to the loop that helps you pull them on.

There are six lace eyes on either side but the tongue is only separated for the first three so while putting them on is an art taking them off also requires work.

They are extremely comfortable to wear.

Two centimetres above the sole is gripped inwards and only the rest of the top is what appears to be a closely weaved material.

The box states they are 11 Medium / D and beside that 45 Euro 10 UK 29 CM. The name of the trainer is Levitate 4 Energize Neutral, they are described as a road running shoe.

The soles are white and the tops of my sample was shades of black and grey, I see from their website they also do them in pale blue and white and also shades of red all with matching laces. They are available in half sizes.

They are available for men and women. The men’s sizes go from 6 to 14 and the women’s in size 3 to 10.

The Levitate 4 running shoe is one of a range of trainers available from their site and from Amazon they are £140. Their site also does some clothing also for runners.
