The team at 8 Floor Games has expanded its series of 1001 Jigsaw offerings. This latest release of Jigsaw Puzzle Collection is entitled Castles and Palaces 4. As you might expect, this collection of images features 500 views of a selection of castles and palaces from a variety of locations that have been used to create jigsaw puzzles.
As usual with titles in this series, its collection of images has been split between five books enabling you to browse through their content at leisure. Each of the books spreads its content over 13 double pages displaying a mixture of portrait and landscape orientation scenes as you make your choice of puzzle image. Accompanying each image will be the number of pieces making up each puzzle. This number will be between 12 and 255 when the image is in its default state. Alongside the number will be an icon that reveals whether the puzzle will feature a Rotation option or not.
Once an image has been selected for the Jigsaw puzzle task, you will gain access to a Modify option. This particular tool allows you to alter the number of pieces in set increments in the puzzle. You will also have the option to turn on or off the Rotation feature and cycle through various different angles for the cut used with the shape of the pieces.
When satisfied with the puzzle settings, the puzzle pieces will be transported to a work area where they will be scattered around the work area. These pieces can be dragged into place by the mouse pointer. A right mouse click can be used to turn a selected piece through 90 degrees when necessary.
Accompanying the pieces will be a set of tools that can be accessed to assist the creation of the puzzle. There are options to display an image of the completed puzzle or a ghost image on which you can create the puzzle. Other tools let you display and work with just the border pieces before the inner pieces make an appearance, magnify an area of the image, sort pieces and show a possible move at the appropriate stage.
Completed puzzles will be rated according to the time taken for the process. Disappointedly the images displayed in the book format do not indicate which images have been used earlier.
You can download this Castles and Palaces collection from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99. It is also available for downloading from Big Fish Games priced at £7.45. The game requires a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 158MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
