Can you save the family of a friend from the vengeance of the God Forseti?

The Unseen Fears – Fortune’s Consequence is a Hidden Object Adventure title from the Grandma catalogue of offerings.  This particular title takes as its subject matter tales drawn from Norwegian mythology.  Available in Collector’s Edition format, which bundles several extra items to supplement the main game play, this title casts you in the role of Nathaniel Wilson, a detective skilled in the art of detecting supernatural activity and dealing with the results of any after effects from its presence.

Along with making adjustments to various volume levels plus opting for full screen viewing and custom cursors, you have the choice of playing the game in Casual, Advanced, Hardcore or Custom difficulty.  An optional tutorial is available and this will lead you through various tasks in order to get use to the game’s features and introduce you to the game’s available tools.

Arranged from left to right across the bottom of the screen will be access to tools for recording important findings, Task, Map, Strategy Guide, Inventory, Tattoo light and a Hint feature.  While the arrangement is fixed, you do have the option of locking the Inventory in position or allowing it to disappear when not immediately required.  The Inventory will also indicate with a plus symbol any item requiring some work before use.  The Tattoo lights will glow to indicate when a tattoo on your character’s arm detects the presence of a supernatural entity and reveal its appearance in the form of runes.

The game quickly develops as you receive news of the death of your friend Matt.  This tragedy occurred following his discovery of a cave in a snow-covered mountain range.  Initial research reveals that the cave which Matt discovered and brought about his death was linked to the Norwegian God Forseti’s sacred temple.

Such building were deemed to be under to protection of Draugrs who were beings brought back from the dead and assigned the task of protecting Forseti’s temple.  According to legend, those deemed suitable to become Draugrs needed to be of the same family of whoever defiled the temple.  In this case the people who would need to be brought back from the dead to become Draugrs would need to be members of your friend’s Matt family.  Not unnaturally they would need to be killed first.

In order to stop the creation of Draugrs and save the remaining members of Matt’s family, you will need to perform and carry out various rituals.  These rituals will require herbs, memories of the Draugrs’ victims and some personal possessions.  You will need to search areas of the mountain range, complete certain tasks while making sense of mystic runes and solve precise problems if you are to defeat the construction of Draugrs and appease Forseti.

As part of your required tasks, you will be faced by the usual collection of mini game puzzles and Hidden Object game play.  Sometimes offering you a choice of Easy or Hard game play, the game’s mini puzzle offerings provide a mixture of tasks as you set about arranging items, plot a path, carry out tasks in the correct order and create a required pattern.  Hidden Object game play will present its required list of items in formats using words of different colours to indicate when additional work might be required or as silhouettes.  In some cases you might need to search a single or group of scenes to find the necessary items which could require the need to move then around or the replacement of goods occupying their space.

After a rather slowish start, this game did manage to draw me into its story line as I collected various pieces of puzzling items and various morphing objects.  You can download this title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99.  The game is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £15.02.  The Unseen Fears – Fortune’s Consequence requires a 1.8 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 915MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
