Adding to its smartphone family of products, Realme has launched its new realme 7 model. This is a 5G smartphone that comes with the claim of being the best value 5G phone launched this year.

The realme 7 5G is slightly narrower and similarly shorter that my usual smartphone companion, the realme 7 5G has dimensions of 162.3 x 75.4 x 9.4 mm (L x W x D) and weighs in at 196.5g.  Taking over the total front of the handset is the slightly raised screen.  While the raising of the screen might appear unimportant but it does mean that there is no bezel taking up any of the screen area.  Thus you get the full benefit of the 6.5" IPS LED capacitive touch screen giving you 90.5% screen to body ratio.  Delivering a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels with a 20:9 ratio, the screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 .  Despite its propensity for collecting finger smears as if they had some value, I was happy with the screen display whether viewing videos, playing games, checking emails and carrying out productivity tasks.

Referred to as Baltic Blue, the casing of my review sample, with its decorative two strip mirror effect, housed a long on/off button on the right.  Probably its length was due to this button integrating the smartphone fingerprint scanner facility giving one press access. There are smaller controls for volume adjustment on the left side.  This area is also where you will find the pop-out tray for holding a combination of dual Nano SIM cards or a SIM and SD card to increase storage option.  The usual pin-prick tool is provided for accessing the tray.  Located along the base of this handset are a 3.5mm jack socket for use by your headphones, loudspeaker outlet and a Type C USB port that can be used for charging the unit's battery.  The realme 7 5G supports both Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res certification for its audio experience.

Keeping in step with recent trends, this realme 7 6G handset comes with a Quad camera set up in the top left cornet of the rear.  This arrangement consists of a 48MP ultra high-resolution, wide-angle camera with a f/1.8 6P lens, 8MP ultra wide-angle lens, 2MP B&W portrait camera with a f/2.4 3P lens and a 2MP macro lens.  This rear mounted camera facility can capture still and video images using facilities such as nightscape, panoramic, time-lapse, portrait, AI beauty, Chroma boost and slow motion..  There is also support for 4K/30fps video recording and 720P/30 and 60fp.

Located on the front of the handset is the Selfie camera.  This is a 16MP camera.  It can be used to capture video at either 1080P/30fps or 720P/30fps.  An LED flash facility is available.

The realme 7 5G is built around a Dimensity 800u 5G chip accompanied by two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores at up to 2.4GHz and six high efficient Cortex-A55 cores at up to 2GHz.  Completing this set up is a Mali-G57 GPU.  My review sample came with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of ROM providing a reasonable chunk of storage space.  As mentioned earlier, you can insert an SD memory card to increase available storage space.

Driving the handset is a 5000mAh Li-polymer internal battery.  This battery supports 30W Dart Charging.  With this feature you should be able to charge the battery up to 50% in just 26 minutes while a full charge will require 65 minutes connected to a power supply.  According to realme, this battery should provide 35 hours of call time, 17 hours using YouTube and 19 hours on WhatsApp.  Running my continuous video playing test, I was able to get 18 hours of viewing pleasure before a 2% low battery warning was issued.  As part of the package you get a 30W Dart Charger but unfortunately, in my case, this charger was of the two-pin variety and thus needed an adapter to work with my three-pin UK set up for charging purposes.

Providing the user interface is a version of Android 10.  This operating system features a realme UI make-over which does not get in the way as you gain the benefit of all the different Android capabilities.  Along with the fingerprint sensor, the realme 7 5G has magnetic and induction facilities plus light and proximity, gyro-meter and acceleration sensors.  With regards to this smartphone 5G capabilities, this handset offers support for a range of worldwide bands (n1, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n28, n38, n40, n41, n77 and n78).  You also get access to 2G, 3G and 4G bands.

With a price point of £279, the realme 7 5G is well worth considering for being up-to-date with the latest technology and presenting a look of a more expensive product.

Full details of the realme 7 5G are available from the Realme web site.

At the time of publication the realme 7 5G is available from Amazon for £279 including free delivery.
