Adding to the ever-growing range of smartphones, Xiaomi has developed its Mi10 family of products.

While the coronavirus has caused a massive disruption to the individual lives of many with the imposition of safety measures and rules to follow, business have also been affected.  Following the cancellation of  MVC, Xiaomi, the high tech Chinese company, decided to switch the launch of its Mi10 and Mi10Pro products to an on-line event.  Lets start by taking a look at the Mi10 version of this smartphone offering.

Available in a choice of Twilight Grey or Coral Green, this handset has dimensions of 162.58 x 74.80 x 8.96 mm and weighs 200g.  Its 6.67" curved AMOLED DotDisplay with Tru Colour has a 19.5:9 aspect rating with a 92.4% screen-to-body ratio.  Combining features such as 5 million:1 colour contrast, dual auto-brightness sensors and modes for high brightness, dark and reading, the screen and phone body is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 front and back.  The appearance certainly looks fine on paper and I will have to be patient to check it out for real as part of a review.

While the front camera is meant for Selfie capture, the rear of the handset features a quad camera arrangement.  The front camera is a 20MP model with a f/2.3 aperture, 5P lens and comes with support for AI Beauty, AI Makeup plus portrait and slow motion video.  Switching attention to the rear of the handset reveals 108MP, 13MP, 2MP and 2MP camera units.  These cameras covers a range made up of ultra-clear, ultra-wide, macro and depth aspects respectively with support for features that can include night mode, Shoot Steady video, Vlog mode and 8K video recording.

Dual stereo speakers deliver the audio.  These speakers have Hi-Res Audio certification.  They come with LHDC and aptX adaptive codec support for low-latency plus Bluetooth.

The Xiaomi Mi10 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 865 chipset backed by an octa-core Kyro 585 chip processor.  The Mi10 has a built-in X55 modem for providing 5G connectivity.  There is 5G MultiLink support for simultaneous connection to three networks (2.4G WiFi, 5G WiFi and mobile data).  The Mi10 has an advanced cooling system made up of a LiquidCool 2.0 vapour chamber + 6-stack graphite layer + graphite with up to 10.5C CPU temperature reduction.  The handset offers a choice of 8GB RAM with 128GB ROM or 8GB RAM supporting 256GB ROM.

Featuring a 4780 mAh battery, the Mi10 handset supports both wired and wireless charging giving the best of both worlds.  The charging is at 30W taking 56 and 69 minutes for a 100% charge respectively.  You also get support for reverse wireless charging so that the handset can give a power boost to other devices via wireless.  A 30W in-box charger is included as part of the package.  The battery is rated at providing up to two days of use from a single charge.

While the Mi10 Pro is of the same size as the Mi10, its weight is increased slightly to 208g.  Again a choice of colour schemes is given,  With this Pro model you can select from Alpine White or Solstice Green.  Xiaomi has gone with the same screen with the Mi10 Pro but made an alteration to the rear mounted arrangement of cameras.  The Mi10 Pro quartet is made up of 108MP, 20MP, 12MP and 8MP units with the last two cameras in the arrangement offering telephoto capabilities.

Xiaomi has added an Adreno 650 GPU to the make up of the Mi10 Pro.  However you can currently only purchase the 8GB of RAM and 256GB of ROM model.  Battery size has been reduced slightly to 4500 mAh.  With this battery, charging has been increased to 50W for wired while wireless charging remains at 30W.  Charging times now stand at 45 and 65 minutes for wired and wireless connectivity respectively.  The Mi10 Pro comes with a 65W in-box charger..  Both the two models support fingerprinting and face locking for those requires secure entry.
