“A New Asgard” is the seventh episode of e-Funsoft’s saga dealing with Helga the Viking Warrior. As with the other titles in this series, “A New Asgard” is a Match 3 game that is made up of over 70 levels that are spread over five chapters of game play relating to the activities of Helga and her supporters. This particular title deals with the events that follow the arrival of Ragnarok and the effects it had on Eldraheim and humankind.
Following e-Funsoft’s usual pattern the game divides its content into five distinct chapters. Starting with the “Oaths of Rebellion”, you will need to progress through “Tides of Betrayal” before venturing into “Serpent’s Awakening” which will be followed by “Storms of Sacrifice” before coming to a conclusion with “Legacy of the Fallen”. Each chapter, which must be tackled in sequence, contains four upgrades which will also need to be instigated in sequence through the allocation of the relevant number of Stars.
As mentioned earlier, the game’s action is based around a series of tile clearing operations performed on a sequence of grids better known as Match 3 game play. The grid will be centrally mounted on the screen and sandwiches between available power-ups on the left and the set challenge for the current level on the right. While the power-ups tend to be rather scarce in quantity, the challenge will consist of the type and number of the particular you need to remove in order to complete the level.
Generally the clearance operation will be carried out by swapping two adjacent tiles to create a group of three or more similar tiles. The group then disappears and is replaced by other tiles falling downwards. Some care will need to be taken with tiles overlaid by ice and bushes as these tiles tend to duplicate themselves and spread out if not quickly removed. Occasionally you could encounter an artefact file which can only be removed by creating a pathway beneath it so that it falls to the base of the grid and can be removed. A reward of Stars will be given for completing a level.
Instigating a Chapter’s upgrade will advanced the story line through the introduction of a cut-scene consisting of well-drawn static characters mounted against an appropriate backdrop. Printed dialogue will appear and thus advance the story. You can either click through this scene or move back to Match 3 action and be rewarded by the next stage in Eldraheim’s development just as long as Loki does not get involved.
You can download “Helga the Viking Warrior – A New Asgard” from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99. It is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £5.94. The game requires a 1.5 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 117MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
