Sennheiser HD 450SE Wireless

A set of headphones from Sennheiser is always an interesting thing as you know they will be well made and use the best components. I knew it had been a while since one crossed my desk and a search found that I saw a pair of earbuds in 2018 but a pair of headphones was even further back in 2017.

The Sennheiser HD 450SE Wireless measure 19cm from the base of the cups to the centre of padded headband and 15.5cm to have the earpieces horizontal, this is with the full 3.5cm of side extension extended. The headphones weigh 240 grams.

Each earpiece moves by around 15 degrees inwards to give a comfortable fit. As these are a pair of over ear headphones there is a good amount of external noise cancelation naturally.

While these are Wireless Headphones there is a 2.5mm socket for the supplied 2.5mm to 3.5mm lead supplied to allow you to connect and hear from other devices such as MP3 players.

Also in the box is a zip up carry case and a USB to USB ‘C’ cable to charge the internal battery. Finally there is a fold out sheet ‘Quick Guide’ in nine languages that explains the controls and LEDs on the headphones.

The headphones fold in on themselves to facilitate a smaller unit for traveling they fold into a ‘D’ shape 15x10cm.

As with most recent units there is an Apple App Store or Google Play App available that enhances your experience and this has Alexa built in to allow you more functionality.

I mentioned the natural noise reduction but there is also active noise cancelling (ANC) which can be useful in noisy areas like tube trains. However this can work too well when walking as you may not hear a car horn.

When using with a SmartPhone it can also answer – and with the assistance of Alexa – even make calls.

With saving the world in mind they come in a plain brown cardboard box and have no unnecessary packaging and absolutely no plastic.

As with all headphones and earbuds that I test I use test files of all Genres of music and speech including Genres not to my taste. This set of headphones passed all those tests without problems.

A full recharge took only around two hours.

There was plenty of bass for my taste and only those who like their fillings to rattle might be less than happy. The higher registers were well catered for in fact I am struggling to find anything – apart from maybe the price – to list as a negative. However please remember quality always comes at a price but here it is reasonable as they are on special offer.

At the time of publication the Sennheiser HD 450SE Wireless is available from Amazon priced at £121.99.
