Honor Magic Earbuds

These look very similar to earbuds that Apple first produced not that long ago. They sound excellent and quite unusually because they weigh so little do not irritate my ears when wearing them for longer periods of time.

Each earbud weighs less than 6 grams and in their charging case the total weight is only 63 grams

The buds are 4.5cm long and shaped to fit in the ear at less than 1.5cm wide.

There are four sizes of gels supplied. A USB ‘C’ to USB lead is included as is a 13amp plug front to USB.

Linking to a Bluetooth PC or Notebook is just a matter of making sure the buds are charged and in their case, the case needs to be open and a button on the back needs to be pressed for them to be discovered and then they can be used. In this configuration the buds could be shared – not that hygienic but it works – however once linked to an Android device both need to be in the ears to work but the FAQs state that if one is lost the other could be linked as a single if you follow the instructions.

Android linking requires you to scan a QR code in the multi-language user sheet. This then downloads an App (AI World) to give you extra information on the buds; this shows the state of charge of the left and the right bud as well as the charge state of the charging case. Double tapping the rear of the either bud gives further options when linked, play/pause, next tune, previous tune or wake assistant. You can set different actions to the left and right bud. If you Touch and Hold a bud it then ranges through a number of noise control modes.

All these actions have to be started with the buds in the case which is 8x3.5x2.5cm. When you open the case there is an LED on the front and in the case between the buds. The rear has the USB ‘C’ entry point and beside this is the button that needs to pressed and held to create the initial link with either your PC/Notebook or your Android phone. For me the button would be better on the front or either side as the case lid lifts to 90 degrees and it becomes a little difficult to do in one hand.

The sound is excellent mainly down to 10mm drivers; there is a good range and enough bass for most normal people. The Bluetooth version is v5 and in my tests I was able to roam further than with most before the signal started to break up.

The pair I was sent was white but I see the HiHonor site below also does them in Robin Egg Blue.

As my tests had to be conducted at home because of the Pandemic I had to manufacture noise such as washing machine spin cycle and vacuum cleaner and with both going you would normally hear very little but the noise cancellation did improve things. I equate my washing machine/vacuum combo to the noise level of the Northern Line on the tube.

As far as talking there are three microphones so with noise cancelling that should be no problem.

Either colour is available from link below for £89.99 with free delivery included.
