ESET Ultimate Home Security
While your computer can give you access to the wonders of the World Wide Web, it can also open the gate for others to infiltrate your personal space.
Offering to provide a range of protection features to help alleviate the threat of such attacks is software from ESET. This Slovakian based company has recently issues the latest version of its ESET Home Security software. This package is available in three flavours entitled Essential, Premium and Ultimate.
I have recently been using the protection offered by the Ultimate version of the software for various web-based excursions and other computer activities. This latest version of the software has a number of extra features to enhance the capability delivered by the other versions.
Having previously been under the protective shield of either the Essential or Premium versions of the ESET package, this latest version of the Ultimate software seamlessly integrated itself into the existing ESET protection environment. The switch to the Ultimate version brought into play a number of features that were added to the host computer. These features were easily accessible from the familiar ESET icon on the computer taskbar.
Greeted by the coloured indication that you are protected, the ESET open menu provides you with option to carry features such as scan all content or just target a user-selected range of files. Depending upon the available content and the capability of your processor, a full scan could be rather time intensive and such a manoeuvre should best be scheduled for less busy periods of your work load.
Regular update checks for the latest version of the software will be carried out and you will be kept informed as to when these actions take place. You will have access to a variety of tools grouped together in a section. These features allow you to Log Files, produce a Security report, check your network connection, schedule tasks (especially useful if you have a memory like mine which sometimes resembles a sieve), carry out a system clean plus submit a file to ESET Research Lab for checking. You can also quarantine possible infected files.
With this latest version of the Ultimate package, you have access to features such as Anti-Theft protection to locate a missing or stolen laptop. There is also a VPN facility which might seem slightly incongruous to find protective software offering a way to get round the restrictions imposed by others to protect the availability of their content. You can enhance your own privacy with a Browser add-on option and monitor personal data plus encrypt data whether on the hard drive or USB device.
Along with checking the security of your network, the Ultimate software can provide protection can block malware from accessing protected folders. You are also granted access to Ransomeware Remediation facility. This feature does seem more suitable for more commercial and big business outlets. This will seamlessly create encrypted backups to alleviate the threats and recover from ransomeware attacks.
AS usual with ESET products, the various flavours of software are priced according to the number of devices you wish to protect and the period of time for the subscription. In the case of the Ultimate offering under review, there is a special offer of 30% off for five devices and one year subscription priced at £80.49. System requirements call for a 1.0 GHz processor running Windows 10 and later.
