Tapo Outdoor Security Camera

Having recently told you about a large outdoor camera that can be Wi-Fi or Ethernet here one that is a lot smaller but it still offers the choice of Wi-Fi or Ethernet but of course it weighs a lot less and has another very useful feature it’s a lot cheaper but still offers the same resolution of 2K.

The camera measures 5.5x5.5x7cm and its fixed mount can move it 7cm further out from whatever it is mounted on.

Its hard wired lead can go through a wall or window frame up to 35cm from the camera. The mount allows a good area of coverage.

At night you can set either monochrome or as an added help as deterrent full colour with the aid of the built in spotlight.

You get a near instant notification of any movement being detected on your Smartphone.

Should you wish for local storage you can insert a micro SD card in the underside of the unit which also has a speaker so assuming its only unwanted wildlife a shout or two from you may have them doing their business elsewhere.

The initial setup I always do indoors as the last thing you want to do is climb a ladder do all the positioning and then find there is a problem.

So anywhere with access to a mains lead and an Ethernet lead should allow you to test it out.

At this point you are offered the choice to go to Wi-Fi and once this is setup you are ready to transfer to your outside position.

There are three screw holes in the fixed bracket and that can move through 90 degrees to get the exact view you want.

In the box along with the camera unit with hard wired mains and Ethernet leads are a mounting template, screws, rawplugs, waterproof seal and a fold out eight side Quick Start Guide.

The Quick Start Guide explains the LEDs on the camera and what you need to do which of course includes downloading the Tapo App from the iOS or Android store.

You can even connect it via Alexa or Google should you wish. While you can get live views and time through the App, however you cannot view on a PC which is about the only minus point find I can find with this rather nice camera.

With some cameras costing into three figures and only offering a slight increase from 2K to 4K this offering is very good value and the only other unit I have reviewed near to this price point was a very small indoor unit that was produced initially by an insurance company for their clients.

At the time of publication the Tapo Outdoor Security Wi-Fi Camera is available from the link below for £37.99 including delivery.
