With so much more video being produced out of studio one thing needed is lights even a well-lit room does not look top notch so this solution from Zhiyun could well help solve it. During lockdown a great deal of meetings moved to online from home where ordinary room lighting did not hack it. The doughnut ring light was popular but is there something better like this Fiveray offering to give you professional standard lighting from a single internal battery powered unit.

It is 50cm tall and 4cm wide and 3.5cm thick except at the handle where its 4cm. It weighs 900 grams. There is a tripod mount on the base. Just above the grip on the left side is a USB ‘C’ connector to charge its internal battery. The back of the grip is rubberised for ease of holding. The only other item to mention is the 7x3cm area on the face of the grip, this has a joystick ‘control centre’ and a small 2x1.5cm screen, above this six circular fans that keep the heat down from the 33x4cm light display on the back.

In the box are a USB ‘C’ to USB lead for charging and a 20x7.5cm Quick Start Guide in seventeen languages, seven sides are in English.

The guide – unlike a lot of other manufacturers offerings – tells you everything you need to know in clear easy to follow language and the HIB interface lets you control Hue, Saturation and Brightness.

Everything is controlled on the six position joystick control.

Not only can you control the brightness level but also the colour and temperature control. The blue light mode produces some interesting results, however this 100W light can give you any colour but the real bright light is the max power white giving 5x more light than most other tube style offerings.

Anyone shooting slow motion videos will love this offering as you do not introduce noise into your videos as you would with less powerful lights. At maximum power it can produce 21195 lux.

A full charge via USB should only take around 2.5 hours. The colour temperature range is 2700-6200k.

There is a video on the Zhiyun link below to show exactly what can be achieved and it also gives you full specifications.

This is a very bright and powerful light that can be handheld or tripod mounted.

Full details are available on the Zhiyun web site

At the time of publication the Zhiyun Fiveray FR100C is available from Amazon for £199.
