Silverwood Bay - An Eleonor Grey Mystery is a Hidden Object game. This review is based on the Collector's Edition version of the product which includes some bonus levels and a sound track playback facility. Offering the player the options to adjust volume levels and view the game using various resolutions, the game will also give you the choice of Easy, Medium, Hard or Custom difficulty.
Not surprisingly Boom Zap, the game's developer, casts the player in the role of Eleonor Gray who is a journalist with ambition to write her next article based on her own life story. The opportunity to embark on this task arrives as your on-screen character receives a broach that is broken into several pieces, After reassembling the pieces of the broach, Eleonor then finds herself setting off on an investigation to discover its history and other information regarding the broach which provides the format for your story.
The journey of discovery will take you to a series of locations that contain linked scenes containing a mixture of objects and a variety of tasks. Arranged across the bottom of such scenes will be details of the tasks associated with the location plus Hint and Magnifier facilities. There will also be a required list of single items that will need to be found, tasks to be performed such as collecting certain items that will need to be stored within a container and a repair task that will need to be carried out on part of the scene. Occasionally a designated task will need to be performed on a specific area of the scene.
While working your way through the various search and task options within a scene, you could find yourself whisked off to tackle a specific puzzle that needs solving. Sometimes finding the linking portal could be as difficulty as solving the puzzle that it brings. There will be a variety of puzzles used with this area of the game and will bring the reward which will consist of a completed image.
The different puzzle types might involve swapping some segments, rotating some elements, work with layers of scenes that need to be tested to see if they will come together to form a completed scene. You might need to produce a number of ice-cream treats by placing irregular pieces on the correct silhouette or cover graph paper with irregular objects that are positioned to leave no spaces. Putting together pieces of various documents and maps, Spotting the Difference, and matching pairs of face down cards are other examples of puzzles used. The puzzle solving aspect of the game does present you with a percentage bar to show your current progress.
Once the game's main 28 locations have been completed then you will be granted access with access to various bonus locations and themed wallpaper. You can assist Eleonor Gray in her investigation by downloading this title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99. It is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £14.90. The game requires a 1.6GHz processor with 4096MB of RAM and 2.05GB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
