Porsche Laptop AP714-51GT

This is a very powerful and also rather expensive offering but when you get a boot at six seconds and shutdown at two seconds this immediately tells you it will not be ‘cheap’ so what exactly does this latest offering from Porsche and marketed by Acer offer.

Porsche AP714-51GT laptop measures 32x19.5x1.5cm the last measurement is at the rear because at the front it is only 1cm thick. The viewable screen is 30.5x17.5cm which gives the notional diagonal imperial measurement of very close to 14 inches, the display is full HD 1920x1080 and the default is to show this at 150%.

Going around the outside has connections on the left for power in, HDMI out, USB3 and USB ‘C’. The front is clear while the right side has a 3.5mm socket for headphones, USB3 port, two LED’s and finally the Kensington Lock port as you would not want to leave this unit lying around unprotected. The rear is clear as the hinge juts out and the screen goes back to 135 degrees.

The base has a long 27.5x1cm rubber strip near the front to lift the unit slightly from your desk, the rear has two 2x1cm feet, the speakers are two vertical 2x1cm units on the sloping edge outside the front rubber strip.

The keyboard has 83 keys with the alpha and numeric ones being full size. There is 2cm clear each side with 2.5cm clear behind the keyboard and 8cm in front for a wrist rest. The 10.5x6.5cm trackpad is set in the centre of this area. I am aware that some people dislike a trackpad and Porsche supply a mouse mat and wireless mouse with this unit as well as a couple of other accessories like a pouch and a carry case.

I managed to recharge the battery to 80% in an hour from totally empty and a full recharge was 90 minutes. It is possible to charge using the USB ‘C’ port with a USB ‘C’ to USB lead; this is a lot lighter to carry around than the mains lead and power brick.

This unit comes with an 11th generation Intel core i7 processor running at 2.8GHz it has 16GB RAM.

It has a 1TB SSD drive (952GB) with just over 900GB free with the Windows 10 operating system it is 64bit and the version is 20H2 at the time of writing I believe this to be the latest currently available.

So far I have not mentioned one of its best features ‘Touch’ while a lot of recent offerings offer touch screens this is very smooth possibly because of the screen itself which fells wonderful to touch but much more than that the accuracy of finger control means no stylus is required and any App that uses touch can be a joy to use on this unit, maybe the extra memory helps I just loved using my finger to move things around the screen even with several Windows open at the same time no lag so while this is certainly not cheap to buy the whole experience using this unit is great, no delays it just does exactly what you want it to when you want it to.

At the time of publication the Porsche Laptop AP714-51GT is available from Amazon for £1899.99.
