Poly BT600(V4220)

This is a Bluetooth Headset with a big plus – added distance – whereas most state 10metres and if you live in a home with solid walls like me it’s probably a bit less with this unit its more than double and I can even go down my garden and still hear and talk on it without drop outs. The magic is the little USB dongle that fits in a standard USB port.

This is an on ear headset that allows you to have the microphone on either the left or the right of your mouth, unlike most that have to be on the left and it knows which side you have it. Unusually the controls are on the right earpiece. The earpieces move through 180 degrees, there is a USB ‘C’ connection an on/off slider button and a red mute button.

I mentioned the USB dongle and this is already paired to the headset, to pair to your phone you need to hold the on/off slider in the on position till it appears in your Bluetooth list of items as Poly V4220 and click on it.

You can pair with up to eight devices but it will only automatically connect to two at once. Let’s say that is the USB dongle on a PC and your phone so you can know if you have a phone call while working on your PC.

There is 3.5cm of extension in each earpiece so even the largest head should be catered for, the headset is 20cm wide when the earpieces are parallel and it is 17cm from the base of the earpieces to the base of the padded headband when fully expanded.

There is noise cancellation so it is possible to carry on a conversation in a crowded room and still be heard easily.

When not in use there is a charge dock where the headset can be placed and it has five contacts in a row that match to headset so that way it is always fully charged. However there is a cable and 13amp USB plug in the box that links to the USB ‘C’ port to save you taking the bulky dock if you travel about. The dock is 12x9x7cm and L shaped.

While the headset when connected to your phone – or other device – has only the standard Bluetooth distance few let their phone go far from their body.

This is a nice easy to use headset and being able to choose your side of your face to wear it is a plus as is the built in noise cancellation.

There is a full User Guide online so if you have any difficulties they will be answered there.

It was comfortable to wear even for long periods so ideal for anyone who spends their day on an Internet help line. Other people said they heard me clearly and I could also hear both speech and sound without problems.

At the time of publication the Poly BT600 (Poly V4220) is available from Amazon for £241.63 including delivery. Additional information is available from the Poly web site.
