Philips Air Purifier 3000i AC3033

With all of us spending more time in our ‘bubbles’ clean air is vital as otherwise if one gets a cold – or worse – we all get it. So this device from Philips could well help. It is rare that I quote the top of the box in this introduction but here it seems appropriate ‘removes 99.97% of airborne allergens’ is the claim.

The claims are that it removes Pollen, Pet Danger, Household Dust, Outdoor Pollution, Gas, Dust Mite Allergens, Bacteria and Virus. You can track everything via the Philips Clean Home App.

The Philips Air Purifier 3000i AC3033 measures 64.5cm tall and round at 27.5cm, it comes fully assembled but you have to remove the lower back half to remove the packaging from the filter which is already in place. It has a 1.8 metre hard wired mains lead that emerges from the base at the back. There are six 1.5cm across round rubber feet on the bottom to just lift the unit slightly about 2mm.

The top 24cm of the unit is a grey herringbone tight patterned material; the rest of the unit is cream coloured plastic with lots of tiny holes that correspond to where the filter is waiting underneath.

There is an 8x2cm area at the top of the cream area at the back that acts as a handle so it can be easily moved around.

Once packaging has been removed and the filter replaced, decide where to put it – within the 1.8 metre length of the mains lead – and switch on. Next link the Philips Clean Home App – available on iOS or Android stores – and after a few questions you are linked and it has set the controls on the unit to suit the environment you have selected.

There are a number of LED settings in a circular 10cm area on the top of the unit but once setup all you are likely to see is a tiny low power lightbulb type icon to show its working. Round the outside of this is a coloured ring with Blue being the lowest through purple and up to red when it is working a little bit harder.

A 12.5x9cm double sided card is initially attached to the unit and this has everything you might need in the future so do keep it safe.

In use – unless in turbo mode – you will not hear it. You might feel a slight draft as you walk past it but that is all. I have tested it in my hall, lounge, bedroom and kitchen and only in the kitchen – when cooking – did things get a little active.

With more restrictions on our ability to get out and about during the winter not just what Mother Nature may throw at us something that keeps the air clear in your home is vital. The more people in a confined space means the likelihood of whatever is floating about in the air is likely to affect everyone so the claim of 99.97% is very reassuring.

At the time of publication the Philips Air Purifier 3000i AC3033 is available from Amazon for £449.99 including free delivery. Full details are available from the Philips website.
