Oppo Reno 10 Pro

While this was launched before the Cricket World Cup it did not arrive with me until the Cricket season was finished. Indeed anyone watching the main courts at Wimbledon would have seen the ‘oppo’ name on the show courts, great advert but how many will have known what the name referred to.

The Oppo Reno 10 Pro measures 16x7.5x.8cm and it weighs 216grams. The viewable screen is 15.5x7.2cm which gives the notional diagonal imperial measurement of 6.6inches.

This is a large phone with hybrid zoom. The selfie phone gives a wider capture angle as the lens is not in the screen but on a pop out above it.

Start up is 13 seconds and shutdown only 1.2 seconds.

Going around the outside has the on/off button on the right. The base has USB ‘C’, SIM entry point and speaker. The left side has volume up and down buttons. The top has a pin hole microphone. The back has ‘O’ button that keeps the camera lenses off whatever you lay the phone on. The three camera lenses are in a column starting 1.5cm down from the top with the LED to the right of the top two lenses.

The screen is Corning glass front and back.

If the lens for the selfie camera is raised and the phone dropped in less than .8 second it is closed to prevent damage according to oppo and indeed when you switch to the selfie lens it opens just as quickly.

In portrait mode the screen is 1080x2340 an aspect ratio of 9:19.5.

This is certainly a phone you would buy for taking photos and video, the latter can capture 4K (up to 60FPS) and the former has a 48MP lens + 8MP ultra wide + 13MP Telephoto all work together to produce great photos. The front selfie camera is 16MP with beauty mode.

The processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 offering capable of working with a 5G modem. The operating system is Android 9 and ColorOS 6.

The battery is 4065mAh.

I normally treat each phone as ‘new’ rather than upgrade mainly because the transfers when I have tried previously caused more problems and often required a factory data reset and to start again.

This time I did the upgrade (both the old and new phones were on Android 9) and less than 30 minutes after opening the box all my Apps were installed and most ready to run, some required a little work but they installed correctly.

I get to try a lot of very nice phones – courtesy of Vodafone – as my hobby is taking photographs this unit certain has a lot for me, even a couple of years ago I was a die hard DSLR fan now I can certainly see that a good Smart Phone has a great deal to offer.

As a phone this unit does everything I asked very quickly. As a camera I think it does even more and even after my test period I am still learning exactly what it can do. The night mode gives amazing results.

At the time of publication the Oppo Reno 10 Pro is available from Amazon for £499 including free delivery.
