Oppo RX17 Neo SmartPhone

At the start of April a review of a sibling unit to this one can be found on Gadgetspeak. So here what is quite a similar product on the face of it, however there are surprises like a fingerprint reader that is normally invisible on the screen.

It is 15.5x6.5x.8cm and weighs 159 grams. The viewable screen has the optional diagonal imperial measurement of 6.4inches. Unlike some recent phones that have no edges here there is approximately .3cm on all sides. The display is still over 90% of the screen and ideal for those Apps that require touches near the edge.

The top has a central notch on the screen, which drops down into the display in a teardrop by up to .5cm.

The back is shiny and moves from Blue to Purple from top to bottom. The screen display is 2340x1080.

Going around the outside has the on/off button on the right with a 16 second boot to desktop and two seconds to off after a two second hold of the button.

The base has a micro USB charge point with speaker to its left and 3.5mm headphone socket to its right.

On the left side is volume up and down buttons with SIM and Micro SD insertion point above these. The top has a sensitive pin hole microphone.

The rear has the dual cameras and LED flash sitting slightly proud .5cm down and 1cm from the left side from the top these are highlighted in a gold colour.

It comes with Android 8.1 and a Color OS 5.2 skin on this. The processor is an Octa Core Qualcomm SDM660 offering. It has 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage with over 100GB available as delivered.

The front camera is 25MP while the rear cameras are 16MP and f/1.7 aperture with the second a 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4 sensor. I was perfectly happy with the images these took and the videos were also rather good with excellent sound for the clips I took at a couple of gigs.

I liked the ability for the screen to be filled with the image you are about to capture rather than only a section showing the image.

The phones battery is 3600mAh and lasted well into the second day even with heavy usage.

By default to screen blanks to a monochrome 1cm tall hour and below that a 1cm minute display with a smaller day and month display all of this moves around the screen.

The home screen has the normal things like clock, messages, Wi-FI and battery etc. on the top line either side of the notch. Below this is a 1cm digital clock with weather summery beside it. Further down the Google bar and below this three lines of four icons.

I liked this SmartPhone and while its cameras may not match that of others costing two or three times more the images were excellent. The Color OS5.2 skin does not interfere and gives extra features that are quickly available.

Searching for the best price I found it on the link below for £279, that’s SIM free.
