Kioxia Flash Drives and Micro SD Card

Image of author
These are the latest TransMemory flash drives and micro SD card offerings from Kioxia. I was sent a 128GB USB3.2 and a 256GB similar device one was black and the other white. Also was a 128GB High Endurance micro SD card and this also has a holder so it could be used as a standard SD card. The TransMemory devices have a five year warranty and the micro SD card a three year warranty.

The 128GB one (white) was 5x2x.8cm and weighs 8 grams. It has 8x2mm hole through the case on the right of the top edge so that it can be attached to a keyring. The cap only fits one way as it is larger one side than the other, this is a snug fit so far less likely to fall off in a pocket or bag.

This is a USB3.2 Gen 1 drive however it still works with earlier versions of USB3 and even USB2 at a somewhat slower speed.

All versions of Windows 10 support this also as I see from the back of the packaging so does Windows 8.1. The same place as I found that it supports MAC OSx v10.11 and mac OS 10.12-10.15. Theoretical read speeds up to 150MB/s.

At the time of publication I found the KIOXIA 128GB TransMemoryAvailable awailable from Amazon for £15.82.

Flash Drive Trans Memory U365

The 256GB one (black) was 5.3x2x.8cm when closed and weighs 9 grams. It has a .3cm round hole back left to allow attachment to a key ring.

On the right side there is a slider that when slid increases the length (first figure) by 1.3cm as the USB connector lives in the actual casing, should you forget to close it you will soon have a hole in your trouser pocket. The other possible advantage of this design is that caps often get misplaced and as the slider is integral to the unit it cannot.

This unit supports the same Windows and Mac systems as the white device above.

The claimed read speed shown on their website below is 150MB/s

Also available from Amazon for £53.81 including free click and collect delivery.

SD and Micro SD Card XC 1 Exceria High Endurance

The 128GB Micro SD card is 1.5x1cm and fails to register any weight on my kitchen scales however when in the 3x2.4cm SD card holder the weight shoots up to 2 grams.

Having the holder means that files written on the micro SD card on say a Tablet or mobile phone can be transferred by any card reader to say a PC easily.

Read speeds up to 100MB/s and write speeds up to 65MB/s are stated on the back of the packaging. It also states ‘stands up to 20,000 hours of full HD recording’. This is a speed class 3 device so ideal for devices such as surveillance cameras as well as phone videos.

I found this product on Amazon for £41.64.
