Karcher Floor/Carpet Cleaner VC5

Most Karcher cleaning items use water – at least in part – to facilitate cleaning. Not this one as it is their entry into the vacuum market. Like a number of recent releases it uses the wand principle with the motor at the top of the wand.

It comes with a conventional shoe which can be removed for other cleaning jobs and one of the three supplied other attachments fitted. With the shoe on the wand extends from as little as .62metres high to as much as 1.22metres so no excuse for the kids not to do the cleaning.

My next joy was the length of the hard wired lead its 9 metres so it is far longer than most cleaners in fact the longest I have reviewed was 8 metres.

The normal Karcher colour scheme is in use yellow and black but this just makes it stand out.

The grip handle at the top of the wand just above the dust storage area has a push button on the back (inside) that allows you to adjust the height. On the front of the handle are a button for on/off and above this a slider button that increase the suction and at the strongest level on a thick carpet you need to be fit to move it along as the power actually lifts the carpet.

Off the top of my head I think this is the first ‘A’ rated power device I have reviewed.

The shoe is 26cm long and collects by suction either flat to the floor or on hard floors with a .5cm soft rubber projection to make sure crumbs are sucked in.

This is controlled by a stand on control on the left side of the shoe, forward for carpet and back for hard floors.

The three other cleaning devices provided all attach to the cleaning tube once you unclick the shoe.

They are a Crevice device 19.5cm long with the forward angled tube 3.5x1cm. The soft Dusting brush 11.5cm long with 1.5cm long brush groups around the open end. Finally the 8.5cm long Upholstery nozzle 12.5cm wide and 3.8cm across with two rows of soft felt either side.

So not only floors can be dealt with but those corners high up where spiders weave their webs as well as curtains and upholstery.

On hard floors it was great, on carpets with little pile good but on thick pile carpets I had problems with things like tiny cotton threads and to be honest I found it easier to bend down to collect them by hand.

Dust and other items are collected in what Karcher call a ‘filter box’ which is easy to empty.

While the motor is 500watts it is still powerful enough to lift a fitted carpet and not that noisy unlike some other brands.

There is a 74 page A5 booklet that has two pages in English that refers to a key page inside the front cover with explanations of all the parts.

The Karcher Floor/Carpet Cleaner VC5 is available from Amazon for £149.98 with free delivery.
