Splendour of Rome

No sooner do I get back from a trip to Ancient Greece, courtesy of DIGIMIGHT'S virtual world, that I need to recharge my time machine as Game Glade whisks me off to the Splendour of Rome to fulfil the task of restoring the grand Roman amphitheatre to its former glory by immersing myself into the game of Ancient Jewels.
Along with the choice of playing this game with restrictive moves, timed limited or relaxed mode, you can adjust the volume levels for background music and sound effects, opt for Hints to appear during play plus make use of high quality graphics. As mentioned the game sets you the task of restoring the Roman amphitheatre which will require a fairly substantial budget. To earn this money, you will need to complete a series of Match 3 grids spread over 120 levels of Match 3 game play.
While most levels will feature a single grid, some will also contain a few floating cells and occasionally a pair of grids sitting side-by-side. Each level will also feature a specific challenge that is made up of the number and type of elements that will need to be removed to complete the level. Generally this removal will be conducted by the familiar Match 3 process of creating groups of three or more similar tiles by switching two adjacent tiles. The group, thus created, will disappear and be replaced by other tiles falling downwards.
Some added assistance in removing content from the grid comes from a variety of sources that appear within the grid. Certain tiles will appear in the form of a dual-headed arrow or with an embellishment such as a lightning bolt. When either of these tile types are included in a group then the result will bring about an additional procedure. The double-headed arrow tile will clear a column or row of the grid while the lightning bolt will attack tiles of the same colour.
As part of the clearing process you may need to clear ice from tiles, remove blocked areas, remove cobwebs, shoot off arrows from a crossbow and collect items such as diamonds, gold bars and coins. In fact many tasks are possible within the grids of this game including clearing a pathway beneath keys and lyres so they fall to the base of the grid and can be gather.
After the completion of each level, your points earned will be converted to cash and added to your bank balance. This balance can be used to purchase the elements of the restoration process. With this feature, you will be offered a choice of four sections on which work will be carried out. The actual restoration is performed automatically and could hardly be considered spectacular.
This game can be downloaded from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99 or from Big Fish Games priced at £7.42. System requirements call for a 2.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 76.9MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
